He was 95 and had alzheimer's for the past several years. Decent guy who made some important contributions to the nation.

RIP Sarge !!
I keep my 2 feet on the ground, and my head in the twilight zone.
Good man, Ah-nuld Schwarzenegger's father-in-law.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
Catholic? Intertwined with the Kennedy clan. Peace corps.
No one in SC knows about the man.
Not all the good die young. RIP
RIP Sargent Shriver, a man who made a huge difference in this world.
My uncle Bob (deceased) was a frequent Peace Corps volunteer, a Catholic Priest who took sabbaticals from the priesthood to do stints in Kenya and Brazil. When not there, he did some parish work and teaching at Catholic schools.
Was killed in a nasty flood that washed out a bridge outside of Sao Paulo, along with a load of kids from a live in school and orphanage. Nobody ever found them, just gone. He loved the Peace Corps, and I think he felt happiest and useful doing that kind of work.
"Where would we be without the agitators of the world to attach the electrodes
of knowledge to the nipples of ignorance?" ~ Professor "Dick" Soloman
Men of Shriver's social station were raised on the idea of service, of giving something back to the society from which the drew so much benefit. An interesting look at his ancestral home and his forebears may be found here. It's an idea that seems to have fallen in the cracks in recent decades.
