Also, if you stick those air-activated warmers in a small zip-lock and seal it, they will deactivate once they have used the oxy in the bag and come back to life again when brought back into the air. I didn't know this until one of our shooters showed me two he had saved and rejuvenated. Not sure how long you can use them before trying to save them or how many times they can be "lazarusized" before they crap out.

Ah yes... the old Ski-Doo. A guy in my neighborhood had one in aqua-blue. He used to ride it when the local streets were covered in snow.. One day he drove it past my junior high school when we were in the middle of our midterm. Went right past our classroom window. Those old Ski-Doo's were LOUD. The new machines are QUIET. Gyy up the block has a new machine. You can hardly hear it.

Yep -- had a hand warmer, but not a JON-E. Worked the same way and was reallly appreciated at times. AND!!...my hand warmer had the extra nutritional value of asbestos in the wick -- do JON-E's have that?

Yea, Ski-Dos are loud! Especially when hiking in the backcountry and the testerone-laden AH's driving them could give a crap less about the noise and the mess in the snow they're making!

    Hello.

I have no idea as to what happened to it.
We had a Soviet era hand warmer that could supply power to a small radio.
The radio could also be powered by an oil lantern.
This was a series of thermocouples, no real reason someone could not convert a modern hand warmer or lantern.
Found this while looking for the original design.

3 volts at around 3 watts sounds about right, the original radio would run on 2 cells or this external power.

If they don;t have asbestos in the wick now they probably did at one time. JON-E's have been around for many decades

Modern snow machines are amazingly quiet. The old ones were loud. Did you ever drive one ? If not give it a try. It's an awesome ride.

Had an Arctic Cat Panther 303 rotary for a while. Was a blast when it ran. Darn seals kept blowing, till I learned some "tricks"... at least it was easy to work on.

I wanted to buy one years ago but we started getting these ultra mild winters back to back with no snow so I figured it would probably end up sitting in the garage. Now we seem to be getting a lot of snow again and the temptation to get one is coming back. Maybe if I can find one used, cheap I'll go for it. Even if it's a fixer upper.
