    Spiderman: The Catastrophe

Is this a case of just because you think you can do it you should?

A Spiderman stuntman has plummeted 30ft into an orchestra pit in the latest accident to blight the most expensive Broadway musical in history.

In the fourth major incident to hit the Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark production, Christopher Tierney was taken to hospital when his harness broke during a preview show.

With just seven minutes of the performance left, the 31-year-old stunt double followed the actress playing Mary Jane before leaping from the end of the ramp.
But while the actress's harness held firm, his malfunctioned and he plunged into the pit to screams of "call 911" from audience members.

Producers have promised to improve procedures in the wake of the accident, with the troubled $65m (£42m) musical already under investigation by federal safety chiefs.
I saw the vid. It was pretty brutal. The lights go off immediately, but the sound of his body hitting the ground was very loud.

    Spiderman goes SPLAT! Again.

    Hello.

OK, how is it that his harness broke?
I wear a safety harness when working elevated and regularly hang from it.
If expected to stay suspended I do the bosun's chair thing.
Working around cranes it is very important that safety be to the highest levels but I am very rarely examined as most others have no idea about the equipment and even if there is a safety man on site he does not know everything and is not allowed on the crane anyway.

In this case, a production where there should be a full time safety person, things like this should simply not happen.

The actor (stuntman) survived with some broken ribs and internal bleeding. Last news report I heard indicated that he was in "critical but stable" condition at the (unnamed) hospital. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery.

Considering this incident along with some of the other problems (including injuries) that have plagued this production of late, one wonders if someone is trying to tell the show's producer's something. And it sounds like the plot of an episode of a mediocre TV mystery. I keep expecting Jessica Fletcher or the A-Team to show up to set things right...

Pardon me if I'm just a bit cornfused.

"...Christopher Tierney was taken to hospital when his harness broke during a preview show."

Stunt persons are supposed to check all safety equipment before use so what's wrong with this picture?

it is starting to sound like the plot of the producers. a big failure and the producers dont have to pay out to all the investors.

    Hello.

That would be a dangerous game indeed.
If it could be proven there would be a good chance of attempted capitol murder charges.

Oh for crying out loud Cowthief, give it a rest. Before the court of public opinion finds you incredibly guilty.

And then check your library for the DVD of The Producers -- either the original (1968 ) with Zero Mostel & Gene Wilder, or the musical remake (2005) with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Since the reference was too subtle for you to pick up on.
Max Bialystock: Have I ever steered you wrong?
    Franz Liebkind: Always.
    Max Bialystock: Never mind.
Lady: [during the performance] Will you please, shut up!
Franz Liebkind: You shut up! You are the audience! I am the author! I OUTRANK you!

It sounds like a catastrophie in more ways than one. First the guy that fell leaves a blemish on the play. Second, the critics have given it the thumbs down. Third, who would waste their time to see it anyway.

Indeed. The whole IP has sucked since Sony aquired it.

I enjoy watching the cartoons from the 90's with my grandson more then those emo suck fests.
