Had this Japan station calling qrz at 2:15 PM my time (PST) today. 10/20 over 9.
I could NOT understand that boy. His English was poor at best, and his accent...reminded me of some of the Super Dave BS of days past.
They never slow down either, they just rip along like they can be perfectly understood.
Thank god for phonetic, at least I was able to figure out his call after the 3rd time.

I miss working JAs on 10.
The last time I did it was in 2005; approximately this time of year. The rig which accomplished the feat - a Swan Astro - is now en route to its new owner.

Worked a JA on 20m PSK31 this afternoon. That's less of a trick from my QTH, though.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.
I've made J* contacts before, in fact they are rather dependable here on 17 around 2 PM.
I kept having a problem with one of my first contacts there a couple years ago. The station had difficulty with my phonetic attempts at giving my call.
He finally gets it and with a (aren't you strange) in his voice says "Oh you mean Japan!" (I was using Juliet).
Js, Vs and Bs are a bit more of a challenge on this end of the blanket. Got some VKs in the book on the new wire, but have yet to stumble across any Js or Bs since around 2006 or so. Today I got a QSL card from Togo, however. Seem to have had a spate of Aferker (as JFK used to say it) on the air since I put the new wire up.

EA8ALD, Jose Miguel Beby Garcia. 22 November, 04:00z. He came back to my CQ, which is sort of unusual--DX stations rarely answer a CQ from Six Land--and was what made me wonder. I'm not saying categorically that it was a fake, only that I found the entire thing rather...different than any other DX contact I've ever made before.
