    Yaesu FT 5000 test.

    As per title.
They say the close-in specs are the best they have ever seen, and it will become the new "gold standard" of transceivers. Holy cow. Also, details on the second receiver which they say has excellent specs too. Too much detail and graphs, curves to go into here, but check it out!!

December 2010 QST ARRL van de FTDX-5000.
I have the PDF file, too big to attach here,:(

It's a piece of crap. Gimme an old Swan any day--I like making people chase me up and down the band.
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

Beat out a K3, that's pretty damned good! Of course, it's going to cost a hell of a lot more too.

In the US maybe, because the K3 is made there.
Here the FT 5000 will be just a tad more expensive, and with these specifications it will be a K3 killer.
A fully loaded K3 will set you back some here, and just putting in assembled pcb's is not really buildiing your own set.
    $ 5500 or $ 6300 for the fully loaded one ( MP)
Same price as the Icom 7700, whick lacks the second reciever.
$ to Euro would be 4 K Euro to just under 5 K Euro with the tax added.

    Good price.

Wow, I didn't realize that a K3 was so expensive on your side of the pond. A factory-assembled 100W unit costs about half as much over here.

The Dollar/Euro now is 1.40 dollar for the Euro, but the fully loaded K3 with all options AND cost of sending it over is 2400 Euro, add 19% VAT and you have 3 K Euro's...
The FT 5000 can be bought here for 4K Euro or 4900 Euro for the most expensive version.
Import is just VAT, as ham radio people don't have to pay import tax for material meant for licensed telegraph operators.
I buy loads of stuff from the USA, direct importing it, saving lots of money.
The 3-500ZG tube for the Heathkit SB-1000 was 400 Euros local, i get mine from RF Parts including VAT for 225 Euros.
Same for the EQplus, 100 Euro less directly imported as buying from a local shop.

Just a few comparisons of stuff bought in the USA.
