As was pointed out, kids now have other skill sets, including the computer.
I did not know how to tie a shoe until after I was brought back from Saudi Arabia and have still not mastered the necktie.
Yet I can field strip the AK47/AK74/M16/Uzi with my eyes closed.
I can troubleshoot and repair electronic devices to component level.
Operating a motor grader is something I am very good at.
And I was able to do all of this in grade school.
Things like lawn care are no longer expected of kids, leave alone operating a large tractor, this is all now done by the "Mexicans", relegated to a lower class of people.

Our son had to do all the household chores on equal basis with us as parents, from dishwashing to cleaning the toilet and bathroom, clean up his own room and shopping.
Including sorting the dirty laundry and learn how the washing machine works as dryer including cooking his own meal etc.

Will servee him well the rest of his life.

As well as the 50's and 60's, most of the 70's, 1984, 1988, Y2K, 2003 2005/6 and now everyone is holding their marbles waiting on 2012.

Had to look it up to see what calendar. Had a good idea and was correct for a change. Thought the Temple had to be rebuilt first.
