    I saw that listing. Enjoy!

I had picked up the older Kenwood mobile multi-mode 2 meter rig, but it got sold off when we lost the previous QTH. But one day!

Without enhancements, I would say that contacts out to 100-300 miles is typical, depending on height of antenna. With enhancements like tropo and Es, it could well be 1500 miles+.

I can only offer the following anecdotal experiences. These may not be typical where you live.

From 100 feet ASL, with an 8-element beam, and 100 watts: Claymont, DE to Kansas City, MO. That's about 1,000 miles.

From 400 feet ASL, with a 13-element beam and 50 watts: Wilmington, DE to Huron, SD. That's about 1,200 miles.

Both of those cases were due to enhancements; either tropo, Es, or a combination.

    YMMV

ASL (Above sea level), or AGL (Above ground level)?

I only ask for clarification, because I can foresee you having a 400 ft tower :)

    It's not a typo. ASL

AGL would have been no more than 25 feet in either case.
