    Win 7: Teach a Retard

How the hell does one search a directory tree for a file?

Yeah, there's a search box, but it doesn't appear to work. All I ever get is "No items match your search." Do I have to turn the dreaded search indexing on or something?

Thanks in advance for any wise-cracks, snarky comments and solutions.

start button, search box type CMD and enter

go to directory and hammer dir *.* /s and maybe /n

you know what to do with the *.*

seriously, usually have a command box open

    rm -r /*
All the world’s a stage, but obviously the play is unrehearsed and everybody is ad-libbing his lines. Maybe that’s why it’s hard to tell if we’re living in a tragedy or a farce.

    Well, maybe on Linux.

    C:\Users\rton>rm ?
'rm' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.

I like the command line, dammit! And I used to write a lot of scripts and crap for NT.

I'm lazy. Some of these paths take a long time to type in, and spelling counts. I used to use edlin, but that don't cut it today.

Linux or Unix, yes, and it's a good thing you weren't running it. That command would have wiped the entire root directory of your hard drive.

That's why I didn't panic... and ignored the Penguin Troll.

But you should be able to type a partial file name in that same box you typed "CMD" in, and it will be found.

Seriously, try it. It's just that simple.
