Dump all your train and or track pics here. I'll have more coming.
ETA: The two pics above are of the trestle over Saluda Dam.

Sunday morning my son and I went to Tim Hortons to pick up some doughnuts for breakfast. We go under the main line (old NY Central) to get there. This was sitting on the track over Central Ave here in the village so I snapped some pics. Very rare to see anything other than a CSX engine around here on this track.

I've been considering catching the Amtrak passenger line that passes through here at 11PM every night. It's very fast!

I was on that train on the way back up north. It is fast, and is usually early because they made the schedule less challenging than it used to be. But once it gets north of DC it really moves since it only drops off passengers so it doesn't matter if it's early. Also, the old Pennsy mainline is electrified and still some of the best maintained track around.

Amtrak has a station just about a mile and a half from me in Depew. I'm pretty much surrounded by railroad tracks here.

Ah, wrong end of the state. Beautiful country. Too bad it's in the snow belt. I know a lot of refugees from Buffalo. Ran from the Lake Effect. But otherwise a great place to live. I remember back in the sixties, there was so much snow being generated by Lake Effect that trains were getting stalled and they almost ran out of food here when they couldn't get it into the city. They finally took the long way around, but things weren't as good or fresh as it took days longer and cost a lot more.

I love the history and beauty of the area. The snow isn't that bad. 1977 was bad (I was six) and a couple of other years, but really the snow isn't bad. I lived in Virginia and it was about 10 degrees warmer there and grey and brown all winter. I'll take pretty snow over brown mud all winter. The biggest thing this area has against it is politics and the economy.
