Don't do that in public. Think of the kids.

14.5 at last test. 85 units/dayof Levamir, 20 units 3 times/day of Novolog, also Metformin. Still can't get the A1C down and my fasting glucose is around 250. I'm in line to see an endocrinologist, but he has rescheduled the appointment twice.

My family doctor is amazed that I am still walking around...

The doctor believes I have developed insulin resistance, hence the large doses of Levamir and Novolog. I use Splenda instead of sugar, any soda I drink is diet, my meals are high in protein and low in carbs. No help. As for being a "gordo", I'm 6 foot 3 inches, 255 pounds. I've been as high as 305, and I'm now within 30 pounds of being able to put on my Air Force uniform. Some of the other medications I take make it very easy to gain and retain weight.

I second MOT's assessment of diabetes being a slow form of death. But I have a predisposition to it from both sides of my family. There are some days I just want to say if I'm going to die from this, hurry up already!

But then I fear police will come and taze me for saying I want to end it all.

I can sympathize. It's debilitating, causes fatigue and wears out all your will power. Isn't there alternative methods to dealing with diabetes? I thought I read where there was research into stem cells being able to cure it for awhile?

After spending some time there, I also understand this. Hopefully you don't meet the same Barney Fife I did. He was a total sh*thead. When I was a LEO, I used to wonder why there were so many LEO fatalities in Florida. Barney Fife educated me real fast.

My A1c is in the high 7 range, highest it's ever been recorded is 9.5, but the numbers just won't budge even with 2 x 1000 mg of metformin, 100 units of Lantus, and 80-100 units of Humalog at every meal.

When I was in the hospital last year the hospitalist didn't believe my dosing and insisted I be given insulin only when she specifically approved the dose. By day three, she believed me, and people started saying "insulin resistant" and "U500 insulin".
I even heard the name "Rasputin" mentioned once!

    Hello.

250 is not good but not real bad.
When I got really sick I went in to check my blood sugar, 500+.
Now I can keep it around 160 for the high and try to keep it above 70 for the low, except I get weak under about 60.

    My last was 9.2.

I take 85 of Novolin 70/30 2X daily and Novolog before every meal on a sliding scale. Diabetes killed me. I'm not dead yet, but getting there in a hurry. If you want to die one inch at a time, this is the way to do it. You guys with diabetes who still have hearts and other organs that are healthy, take care of yourself because once it is damaged, it doesn't comeback.
