I got my 3rd choice. I did notice a person waited for Mr. Cotton the Detroit FCC field office to die. His call was W8DX. He conducted the ham, and commercial exams at the field office. He was a nice guy, but made me sweat bullets waiting for the exam to be graded.
Well I'll be...!!!! I've wondered if that would happen (a non-ham with call letters on the plates), and there it is. That is a REAL BUMMER!!! Not only for the people whose calls go "unavailable" but in general about ham radio. It's sad to see that the states are so hell-bent on the extra $$$ from vanity plates that they'll allow this to happen. Ah, well, sigh...I guess, "So what else is new?"

When did Mr. Cotton work in Detroit. Was he there in '60 or '68. If so, I guess he's the guy that examined me - and who, BTW, had to flunk a guy on the sending test!!! What a moran!

I am very careful out here in the west when driving. Get too antsy and bullets start flying by default...i just want to get where im going so i learned to keep my cool, let people do what they are going to do, let them "win" by getting in front of me, maintain 80mph, etc.

For the longest time, i wanted vanity plates. Though i do love my hobby (the rigs always on when im at the desk), i have decided against it in recent years. This city was built, funded and founded on crime and it doesnt disappoint. I dont need to be advertising anything that may indicate to the feeble and desperate that i may have anything they want...my truck is nice enough as it is.

And when all else fails, im a Glock man. ;)

I would tread lightly, and be more mindful of my surroundings if I lived there.

Been thinking of getting plates. You can get them for free in Alaska if you have an HF rig in your car. I just have not gotten around to putting 800 bucks worth of radio into my 400 dollar truck. :) Guess I could shell out the 30 bucks for a personal plate and save the hassle.

A mono band 10 meter rig would suffice?
