"Shortwave Receivers - Past and Present; 3rd Edition" has been discontinued as well.
Hopefully there will be a fourth.

SW BC stations in the U.S. are down to a hand full now.

However, the good news is that the standards in shortwave news services like the BBC, Deuchwelle, Radio Canada, Radio Netherlands, Radio Espania all have really good podcasts or at least audio on their sites.
Not all is lost...just mostly.

You need to look beyond the amateur and SWBC bands for prime SWL catches.
Clandestines, utes, bootleggers, MARS/military traffic...it's all out there.
Build a log-yag that's tuned to cover 22-26 MHz, equip it with a rotor, elevate the boom to 20-25 degrees above horizontal and you're ready to listen in on Jovian radio storms (so-called Io B and C events).
From 23-30 MHz there is a sh!t-ton of interesting listening to be had when the 'spots are cooperating; figure 25-30 MHz during Sporadic E events.
The days of Radio Moscow, Radio Tirana and the like may be gone (for now) but that by no means implores that the airwaves are dead.

Late last night/early this morning I caught [machine-generated] AM MCW on/about 5.810 MHz. The sending was a little fast for my rusty skills. Casual research thus far shows this to be a NASA frequency. :-?:
