Still getting the black screen of death

on my HP laptop about once a month. also if I leave the machine unattended for 10 mins it freezes about 2 or 3 times a month. I have to remember if I'm leaving the mach to close the lid.
To exit the black screen I must disconnect the power, then restart.
could this be an HP problem?

    Download to correct the problem?:

It looks then, like a registry problem caused by M$ or even HP adherence to M$ doctrine. There are publications, including on the internet, explaining registry functions but nothing to hint at this.

If you do acheive a working registry it's worth backing it up with free software rather than M$ software and possibly to turn off the "system restore", using your free backup instead.

Well then, that's one that'll need to be looked up. You should actually be paid to do beta testing.

You using "sleep" mode, or are you actually turning it off when you're done?

I've seen some odd stuff with sleep mode. Mostly works, but it seems like a full reboot is needed from time to time.

sleep mode works fine (when I close the lid), everything else is where the trouble arises.
