    Re: 2M FM Simplex

There are some areas of the country where simplex is dead, but others where it thrives. I have been into simplex operation for many years, despite not having a 100 foot tower and 200 watt amplifier. I just go up to a hill and get on some 2 meter simplex frequency, 146.55 maybe, and just call CQ. I have had contacts out 150 miles on simplex with either my FT-60R on FT-8800R. :dance

146.535, .580 and 147.555 are popular in the Akron vicinity.

A number of us in the area also play around with 6M FM (and AM, around 50.400), 222 MHz FM and 440 MHz FM simplex.

    Hello.

In San Antonio, '52 (146.520MHz) is known as the 'Dispute Channel'.
This is due to the fact that it frequently is nothing but disputes.
So a bunch go to other simplex frequencies.
I am welcome on all the repeaters but except for 220 really do not care for them.
2 meters, like 440, is not all that exciting in and of itself.
GMRS is something I use quite a bit, that and Mototalk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOTO_Talk
This is due to the fact that it is the Greatest common divisor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greatest_common_divisor
But, we do use things like the VX-3R, so the Amateur Band does get a visit.

Rudy.... which repeaters can I find you on in San Antonio????
Encrypt everything. Even if you have nothing to hide. It increases the noise floor.
