I was looking at this because I'm bored. I like it because it looks simple. It is supposed to be an updated version. Is it worth the 45 bones?

By the way: thread 17,000
What are you going to use it for?
And what's the dynamic range? Some are on the order of 50dB - not stellar. That's a function of their A/D converter. Most of the cheaper ones use a 12-bit ADC.
Oh I don't know. Whatever it will do. Something to use along with the laptop.
I've had a Nooelec version for a few years, covers 25 MHz to 1 G or so.
It is amusing. I used it to solve some issues with RFID on 915 Mhz.
With an OK antenna, it is fun to tune around. GMRS trolls in the city.
Because it is always the Superbowl Somewhere.
I use the Nooelec jobbie for this: https://sites.google.com/site/policescannerhowto/
.
Unitrunker is interesting, but really needs two receivers.
I'm plenty lost playing around with DMR, DSTAR, and an OpenSpot Shark One.
FFS!
I have 2X BCT-15X and 2X BCD-996XDs (1ea connected to two Unitrunker-configured PCs) for various analysis and digital monitoring duties. It's a neat setup but I really, REALLY wish there was a software-implemented squelch present in the app.
Derailing Charles's thread ever so slightly:
Various commercial receivers (e.g., Watkins-Johnson, Mackay Marine) had an ISB option. That is, Independent Sideband, For each assigned service channel, you'd have a voice component (USB) and a data (LSB). Thus, one could talk to another vessel or shore station on one sideband while receiving RTTY on the other. Many surplus/decommissioned units don't have the ISB boards installed but they do have a wideband IF pickoff point for the accompanying filter/demodulator board. Might be interesting to connect an SDR dongle in place of the ISB board and use it as a spectral display or run it in demodulator mode and take advantage of its signal processing capabilities.
