Oh yeah! <slobber> <drool>
Cool! Very clean looking.I had for a short time a 2b to play with. Very nice receiver. Always wanted a SW-4.
Now the search is on for a reasonably priced T4XC. I know, good luck, right?
Despite popular opinion, lightning can strike twice.
What I have found on Craig's list and Facebook marketplace is awesome. My Zenith Royal 7000-1 was a 10.00 Marketplace find. Year and a half ago it was a 4 channel 100 Mhz Hitachi scope For under 100.00. A lot of stuff can be mailed.
Go to Zerobeat and join the Drake List.
Throw out a 'Wanted' ad and you'll probably get a reply or three.
Serial number, options fitted? Any mods done? There is a well-known mod to the audio chain (specifically, the power supply section) which corrects a what-the-fsck-were-they-thinking faux pas on Drake's part.
I have the Drake 4C line in my garage. I haven't had the opportunity to fire it up. It belonged to my dad. I remember it being a great receiver. The transmitter uses sweep tubes that you will incinerate if you hold the key down a bit too long. But that RX is superb!
SN 27221. Has the 3 optional CW filters installed, and the Xtals for 160 coverage and for 28.0-28.5. It has the stock AM and SSB filters, don't see any mods. I took the covers off and gave the pots and switch contacts the deoxit treatment. The Xtal calibrator is right on the money. What a great sounding receiver this thing is. I'll check out Zerobeat, thanks for the tip.
I'll keep looking. They seem to be all over the map.
Nice find. Haven't had the opportunity to enjoy any of the Drake line. Still spinning the dial on the RX only TT ArgoV though.
Thanks, Ron.
Man that is a beauty.
And when you fix the audio, the 4C is a GREAT receiver. I reconfigured the power supply using three terminal regulators and a zener regulator circuit and replaced that horrible audio amp circuit with a TDA 2003A. Significantly reduced the heat from the audio output Q.
