I know you all had one of these...
Remember those Radioshack X-in-One Electronic Project Kits? I bet you do! And, I bet you owned one.
I've been hunting for something similar for my kids, I know it's what gave me my jumpstart into electronics.
Well, Rat-shack gave up on them for the most part. But...

Never had one of these, but i still use the doorbell you could make with the 33 chimes I.C. they sold :snicker:
Must be over 25 years old now, still ticking and licking..
Ah, and there is the 2 x 10 channel equaliser i still have somewhere...with led bars
Re: I know you all had one of these...
They had the door bell deal, A short wave reciever,An alarm clock. I can't remember the rest. Thats 35 years ago.
Re: I know you all had one of these...
I had the 100-in-1.
Which became a gazillion-in-one sometime along the road, as the parts were "liberated" and found their way into lord knows what.
Snap-Circuits are the "new way" to go with regards to the all-in-one kits. I got a couple of the assortments for my nephew and he really enjoys them.

How old are the kids?
Can you stick them with a breadboard, a couple hundred components, some wire and a couple of books?

That's the way I learned "how to".
I also have a half a bazillion discretes that I've been portioning off into 'care packages' and sending out. Charles got the first one and there's many more where his came from. If your kids are old enough to handle breadboarding, let me know and I'll put an assortment of components in the mail to you.
Re: I know you all had one of these...
I used to sit and read every page of circuit examples in the Radio Shack "Semi Conductor Replacement Guide and Cross Reference."

9 & 6. I'm a horrible teacher, however. My wife and oldest have let me know that full well :)
They comes with a easy-to-follow book and wiring directions. I guess I could do the bread board and a bunch of books.
I do remember having these, and I really enjoyed them :)
Re: I know you all had one of these...
I remember stabbing my finger tips on the springs a time or two.

Does Chloe know about PL259's?
Re: I know you all had one of these...
Do you remember the Rat Shack sound effect chips? Just add some buttons and a battery, you have a Foley in your hand. Suddenly sales plummeted and Shack discontinued them when CB mics started coming with them built in.
Lest I forget, anyone in the NYC Metro area remember the 2M repeater in Linden, NJ? The controller messages were a hoot, Tarzan and Jane had me in stitches, then things got out of hand and the FCC put an end to it. Now what did I say about CB???

I dont even think they sell CB stuff at the local one. As a matter of fact I dont think the local one even sells scanners.
The sell cell phones and...um...I thinking...um...thats about it but IDK I havent been there in quite some time lol.
Oh yea I think walmart sells the all in one lab kits now.

I still have one.
You could get those chips on the surplus market for $1 each. They're now fetching anywhere from $10-$25.

Had one!
I was putting the finishing touches on the final wiring when I was about 13 or 14, it was about 12:30am and it came to life. Scared the schistosomiasis out of my brother in the next room! He screamed there was a UFO outside the window! My parents of course, got up and yelled at me.
Ah, nothing like solder smoke in the AM.
Re: I know you all had one of these...
Especially when you use solid wire solder and a drop of hash oil.
