To all you folks in the Carolina's and along the Southeast and mid-Atlantic coast please be careful. This hurricane looks as it is going to be pretty intense as it eventually (and very likely) makes landfall. I am anticipating that this will noticeably affect the weather all up and down the coast to one degree or another. But right now it looks like the Carolina's and Virginia are going to see the worst of it. Again, please be careful and be safe.
^ I'll support that, take it seriously...
Predictive models are putting SC back on as a direct target. Then curling south before being pushed back out and traveling up the coast.
This thing's fixing to get really messy.
Be safe, all.
Model changed again. They keep dropping it further south. We'll see.
It looks like we'll catch a serious break in central VA due to this. Some stiff winds Friday/Saturday, and a few inches of rain. The ground here is super-saturated, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the near TS force winds take down some trees. We are way over our normal rainfall here this year.
Last I heard the hurricane is weakening and has expanding as it loosens up a bit. This could be both good and bad. Less tightly focused intensity could spell out less devastation and somewhat less danger due to lower winds, etc. On the other hand the wider coverage area could mean more widespread problems such as flooding...etc.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I wrote the above. With the ground and trees heavily laden with water even diminished winds can easily topple trees.
In just a couple months we'll be looking at the same weather maps but wondering which areas will be most affected by the blizzard.
It's still going to dump a shitton of rain regardless of weakening. Enough to fill 80 Lake Hartwells.
Good luck to any of you in the path of the hurricane(s). I may have to deal with snow and the occasional tornado or flood, but I wouldn't trade any of that for a hurricane.
So it took a northerly landfall and is weakening.

We've had sympathy rain here the last three days. If I could post the cell phone vid I shot of the deluge coming into the shop, I would. Nothing of the magnitude the east coast is about to get, but a WTF moment nonetheless.
Good luck fellas, stay safe!
It's a strong Cat 1 storm now. It's been weakening and I guess once the bulk of it is over land it will rapidly diminish in intensity. What seems to be the main issue it that the storm is crawling along so slowly. By the time this storm is up in my latitude it should be well to our west and will have traversed over land for such a distance that it will probably be at best just rain, possibly a whole lot of rain.
Dropping 10 trillion gallons of rain is expected.
That is a lot of water even over the large area...
Hasn't moved much but it has steered south. Yesterday I went to an eastern view looking for cloud tops, winds, etc that would indicate the arms of the storm extending outwards. Found nothing. There was a cloud bank to the west. Pop up stuff. Humidity and evening occurrences.

It's creeping along at 3 mph. Here are today's clouds.

Friend of mine is moving to Monroe NC soon, something about turkey production. Looks like a nice area, may have to visit next spring/summer.
Earlier this morning till about 1 pm we had gusty winds. Some very strong at 45 mph. Winds dies down a little and we had a few light sprinkles.

It's very light rain. Slight occasional gusts. Seems to be headed NW. That puts us at the bottom section of the spin, avoiding the stronger section of the storm.

BTW, I am west about 60 or more miles west of the dot which marks Spartanburg.
Know what? Maybe it would be better if you could check the map yourself.

I'm glad it's not so bad for my area. Others are not so lucky.
What we see here on telly in the Netherlands is bad enough.... glad you are safe.
It was a rough evening here in Richmond. Multiple confirmed tornadoes, and tornado warnings numbered in the dozens. At least one death confirmed, over near Midlothian, Va. Some brave fellow captured a video of this one:

All of the action was just west of me... the latest tornado warning went out for western Richmond, no more than 5 miles from my house. I feel quite fortunate.
I bet you guys don't get that too often, huh? VA doesn't strike me as tornado country.
Spectacular shit. Too bad people sometimes have to get hurt by it.
Not unheard of, but it is rare to see a multiple twister outbreak like we did Monday. I think the topography (mountains to the west, ocean to the east) isn't so favorable for the types of storms that spawn tornadoes. Funny thing, none of the super-cells had cloud tops much higher than 20,000 - 30,000 feet. It was a combination of extreme moisture and turbulence from the remnants of Florence. Humidity was very high all day Monday, like pea soup. That, we have lots of in the summer. Mold counts here go higher than the scale the meteorologists use to measure them!
Well, the hurricane finally reaches us last week. Of course it was no longer a hurricane nor a tropical storm. And most of the remaining clouds were well to the west giving us a little rain and a couple thundershowers.
Summer departed today, had our first Autumn storm and buckets of rain and temps below 20 C...
Next week Saturday new 4 season tires will be put on the car....
Just dandy, several tornado warnings nearby. Virginia must be part of tornado alley!
86 during the day after the hurricane rains blew off. Now the temps are dropping. Expecting 48 by 8am.
We have a week of 70's in store with no rain. Weird for the PNW in October...
But I'll take it! I've got stuff to do outdoors that rain makes into a chore.
Last week 20 - 22 C here sunny and all that stuff, weird....
In VA, 7 tornadoes, 5 deaths, 534,000 without power as of this morning. My power just came back on... 23-1/2 hours after it went off. Great time to be waiting on a part for the generator.
We literally got a 14 hour rain, mild. Little wind yet a bunch of people still lost power. Guess because the ground is saturated.
We were definitely of the weak side of this one the whole time.
