The FT-710 is a very good rig; the receiver is even better than the IC-7300. I settled on the latter because I'm not a contester, my limiting factor is my antenna and I liked the user interface better. YMMV.

On edit: Also, at the time I bought it the Icom was less expensive.

The direct connect to a monitor is a huge plus though :)

I'm kinda surprised that monitor connections haven't become commonplace sooner... ("they don't support VGA!")

And you can plug a mouse right into it. I could literally lay in bed and control the rig.

So, it's a computer that just happens to identify as a radio.
