Cyclonic Bombardment!

Cyclonic bombs away !
I don't remember so many silly, colorful phrases for the weather growing up. Then again, I don't remember the red pill either.
If that's what makes your bomb go boom.
We periodically here on Vancouver Island get "Pacific weather bombs" in the fall and winter months mostly intensified in El Nino years. We have not really had on in a while, but I know what the people in that part of North America are going through when these things go through! The side effects of weakened jet stream contained polar vortex due to climate change,maybe..... :dunno:
Basically our "bomb cyclone" was a classic nor'easter, actually very common round here from fall through winter and spring. The "bomb" designation for this one was due to the rather abrupt and significant pressure drop which resulted in the high cyclonic winds. Excluding Hurricane Sandy, nor'easters generally cause more damage round here than hurricanes. Most hurricanes tend to swing out to sea once they get this far north where as nor'easters tend to hit us head on. And being driven by cold air rather than warm air nor'easters give us the bulk of our snow. And once in a blue moon nor'easters have been known to team up with hurricanes to really wreak havoc with our weather.
I won't talk about the 73 degrees right outside my door in Marijuana.....
42º felt downright balmy today after nearly 2 weeks of lows in the teens and some single digit nights.
Our temps keep hovering near normal but our precipitation is behind schedule. Still too early to use the D word because it's only Jan.
WWell at the end of the week we are supposed to see some temps in the 50's with rain. Otherwise they next week or so looks fairly seasonable for winter around here. mainly upper 20's and low to mid 30's during the daytime and teens to low 20's during the night time. Will we see anymore intense arctic blasts this winter ? Maybe. Or, maybe not.
Asposed to get another cold snap but only for a couple of days. Highs in 30's and lows in teens. Then maybe riding weather for the weekend.
I am moving to 4, 5, or 6 land. I will operate 20M SSB from my rascal scooter.
<speaker> "Boy, it's cold in Cincinnati!" </speaker>.
<crowd> "HOW COLD IS IT?" </CROWD>
<speaker> "It's so cold that, the chip readers and coin slots on the city's parking meters are all frozen; Cops have to give 'Consideration' to any car parked by parking meter", no Overtime Parking Tickets till the weather gets above freezing.
.
Try Lompoc, California. I was there for a few years at it is a nice spot. Open beaches (Name of beach is "Surf City" and no crowds), Pacific missile launch site next door, small town with Santa Maria (100k+ population 1/2 hour drive north.) Santa Barbara 1 hour south. Natural hot spring and a nude beach near by on 101 freeway.
Bit stormy weather, some flurry of ( wet) snow forecasted hail and more of the pleasant wintery stuff, cold around 0 C.
No real winter foreseeable for the next 14 days, didn't have one either as a few inches of snow for a day.
Let the spring begin...;)
Supposed to see snow here tomorrow and cold. Back in the upper 50s for the weekend. Should be a fun drive in the old truck in the morning. I would usually use the Subaru in snow but a clunk in the rear suspension has it off the road until I can fix it.
It's raining. Again.
Snow out the window.
Sneu
icy roads... woo hoo
100 mile per hour gusts here at the moment, raining horizontally, 3C above 0 though...that is fun....
It quit raining. No, wait, it's raining again....
Light rain and 50.
More of the same and 52.
Sunny and 80
It got dark. WTF?
Pissing down rain, +8C windy...
Brilliant sun and 40f in SW Oklahoma. Got 3 days off and gonna be nice all 3! YAY
November December and January all much too wet, January normally 60 mm now already at 110 mm rain tomorow some more...
Didn't have a decent winter in 7 years, just an extension ( wet) from autumn....till spring sets in.
I knew i should not have bought 4 season tires before winter.....my fault...
No idea what the weather is outside.
Here in the shack it's 73f, slight breeze, and no humidity to speak of.
I think the sun is out. The clouds seem brighter than usual.
the Sun? Whatametingy is that?, i remember vaguely some shiny disk on the sky, but that might just be my imagination...
If the light is continuous, it is the sun. IF it flashes then dissipates, something is really really wrong. Look for substantial cover.
So yeah, approaching 21 straight days of rain. Not all day every day but mostly on and off all day.
Looking at another 7 to 10 days of more of the same.
