EA8ALD, Jose Miguel Beby Garcia. 22 November, 04:00z. He came back to my CQ, which is sort of unusual--DX stations rarely answer a CQ from Six Land--and was what made me wonder. I'm not saying categorically that it was a fake, only that I found the entire thing rather...different than any other DX contact I've ever made before.
I used to work Las Islas Canarias on 11 ssb with 18 watts. Also New Caledonia, Philippines, S Africa. I have a shoe box in my dad's attic full of qsl cards, coins, & patches from around the world.
You never know, Carl.
I worked ZS3E (Now V51E) on 10 meters calling CQ from DVC (Diablo Valley College). The guy was way cool. Spent the whole qso complaining about having to change his callsign the next day because Namibia was going to be independent. I talked to the guy for a long time. He kept telling breakers to fuck off because he was talking to me, yes actually talking, not the 5/9 pse qso bullshit.
Damn. That was 1990.
