Tropical storm Andrea is clobbering us here. Intense winds (at least 90-100 mph) torrential rains and flooding everywhere.. Almost as bad here as during hurricane Sandy. So far we are holding our own but I don;t know how long the power and phone will hold out. This is bad shot and a precursor of what is yet to come. I predict a massica Cat 6 hurricane hitting thios October entirely annihilating the northeast. Sea water is washing up my driveway and I am many miles from the shore.
Hi John.
Andrea is currently, subtropical.
Home video or it didnt happen!
Google it.
Well it sure packed a wallop here. Fortunately the intense winds died down before they could produce too much damage. A few trees and wires down in a few places but everything along my road is standing and okay. Bad flooding throughout the area from Brooklyn up through Westchester and beyond. Lot of roads underwater and washed out. Travel will be rough for the next week or so.
expecting a violent night in Indiana tonight.
Linkolent Weather
Shoot. What do they know about storms in Oklahoma anyway?Quote:
Meteorologists were even warning about the possibility of a weather event called a derecho (duh-RAY'-choh), which is a storm of strong straight-line winds spanning at least 240 miles. The storms are also likely to generate tornadoes and cause power outages that will be followed by oppressive heat, said Russell Schneider, director of the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla.
Breaking news on Guam. It’s hot.. Still.
We had rain off and on today......acted like tropical showers i've experienced in Australia..... never rained like that around here.......rained so hard that you could'nt drive on the streets because wipers could'nt keep up with it!.... a little freaky!
"rained so hard that you could'nt drive on the streets because wipers could'nt keep up with it “ and "I would've melted like a turd in a rain storm.” "Glad I wasn't walking” It was "a little freaky! "
Hit 60ºF (15ºC) yesterday. It's 53º (12ºC) here now. The storm here isn't as bad as the news is making it out to be, but South Jersey is a long ways from where I'm at.
A little cooler today by 5 degrees after steamy 90s. Cool front rolled in yesterday dropped rain and dropped humidity. Well, after the morning juice burns off the humidity dropped.
Still hot..
Depends on your definition of "hot" I suppose. Here are the average monthly high temps for Guam:
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec 76 77 78 79 79 80 80 80 79 80 80 79
Looks pretty mild to me. In fact, the average highs in July, August and September are actually 6-8 °F lower than they are here.
Pope Carlo, let me explain something to you about Guam... Guam is corrupt, those numbers are taken at the bottom of wells in the airforce base. Never seen a temp in the 70’s for 4 years. There is never a day that goes by less than 95 F lately. The last week it has been 97-100 F. These numbers are used to attract Japanese tourist. You literally can not go outside before 5 pm. I guess I will need to post proof with my next weather update.
92 now. Real feel 110.
Comfortable at 80oF (27oC) with Thunder-showers possible.
Hotter. Snakes are out, 2 kills last PM.
Weather here is the typical hot humid overcast crap we get every summer, and a good part of the autumn too... We've got at least 3-4 months of this crap to look forward to.
A very pleasant 65 with light showers off and on.
Wildflowers are going nuts!
Today was toasty. 114° on the porch, and 122° at the well.
But it's a dry heat.
BULLSHIT !!!
It's SO HOT here the Town Car just melted down into a Molten metal Puddle out in the Parking Lot!
How my gonna get home?
I just measured 35.3 degrees Celsius on my digital thermometer on a shady part of my back deck...... at 6:50 p.m. this very hot day..... I believe we set records across the province today and it's supposedly going to get warmer in the next couple of days,so i'm guessing we're not done with the record breaking yet......I've never recalled it ever being this warm around here....I'm not going into any of the climate change stuff, but this "different" type of warmth and the gradual change to the styles of "tropical" rainfalls we've been getting lately sure has me wondering! :chin:
Farmers all over the midwest are expecting great crops, to make up for the last two years.
I know Indiana can be blazing and humid. But 114 or greater and dry ain't no bargain and will kill you even quicker. You'll dehydrate and collapse before you know it, if you end up caught in the sun for too long.
Personally I'll take neither. I consider 70 degrees too hot. I'll take sub freezing temps over high dry or humid heat any day. An ideal high summer temp for me would be 50-60 degrees. Give me a place that has short warm/hot seasons and long extended cool/cold seasons. The less hot or warm weather the better.
> 100 degrees is unfit for human habitation AFAIK. That is an oven, not a place to live.
True about the lightning, that doesn't happen for a few weeks yet. I've been working outside a lot lately, and I really don't mind the 110+, but several hours in the 120+ is a whole different thing. There is a big difference between being outside in the heat, and doing demanding physical labor in it. This old mans body isn't quite as forgiving as it used to be, but I still stay very active, and it isn't golfing, swimming and fun shit like that. I don't mind getting the heart rate up and sweating at all, in fact, it's probably good for me.
I'll tell you one thing, I'll take 110 all day long, over freezing temps and snow. You can keep that stuff. At least I don't have to shovel the heat.
