Con, liked to use the word "DAMN "and every time he would say it, he would emphasize it by spelling it out..."That's...D-A-M-N" and would Dare the FCC to stop him.
It was 1961 and what a time it was. It was a time of transition for ham radio, but not everyone was "on board".
I was 12 yrs old and propagation was Great! I would drift off to sleep, listening to the magic of short wave stations.
I still have that radio, a Hallicrafters S-20R Sky Champion. It's been electrically restored and works great. When I got it, I added a Vernier tuning knob off a WWII radar test unit.
I still remember the surprise when I switched on the BFO and could understand those "Garbled" voices, that I later learned were SSB.
Thanks for allowing me to have a trip down memory lane.
