Sure, if you wanted a thermonuclear style effect...
T.U. Delft won for the 7th time the solar car race in Aussie this last week.
After passing the finish line the battery had enough power left to charge 250 phones, maybe they do something well?
The Aussies still have that big hole in the ozone layer so they get a whole lot more Sun Power making it viable down there but no where else. The rest of the world needs coal and tar pit energy.
I like the idea of floating wind farms, But I can guarantee there would be no shortage of Americans who would complain about it even if they were so far off shore they weren't visible.

Whole new build area's here now come without natural gas connections, for cooking and heating, 0 energy homes, very good insulated solar panels on the roof large batteries for delivering electricity when dark, connected homes delivering electricity to each other when needed, and solar heating water panels on the roof adding warm water for shower/bathing, dishwashing.
If heat is needed a heat pump is in place to deliver needed warmth.
In area's where that is possible rest heat from the industry is used to warm houses, LED lighting on the street fed by communal solar panels/batteries.
