Cool homemade parts. Runs off of RF through crystal set.

Played with crystal and regenerative receivers a lot as a kid... good times.

Here's some great linkies:

OIC... an excuse for a short antenna? :neener: :giggity:

Actually, I want to build the tuning section for LW. I was wondering though if I would have to choose a transistor more suited to lower frequencies. Not sure. Of course, I would indeed use a giant outdoor antenna. I don't see any other way around that. LOL!

Got $26 for all the options?

Well I did but I guess I'm being dense and missing something.

All I'm seeing is a $14 kit with a $3 add on. Then $3 shipping.
One of us is math wrong.

Eh? "sallright... :neener:

# price is $14 for basic kit (4 AND 10 MHz crystals, no printed documentation)

# add $3 for additional filter components designed by Jack Smith in his review

# 11/10/2009: note that the extra filter components now have FT37-61 cores and smaller magnet wire
versus the original FT50-61 and #22 wire add $3 for postage/handling in USA

# add $6 for postage/handling worldwide

14+3+3+6=26 Duh, I added the worldwide shipping. So it's only $20.

So far I've wound about 360 feet of 30 ga. wire on a 3 dia. tube and it's only covered 5 inches. Will switch to 24 gauge next and continue. It's tedious but it looks good.

430' on the coil. Imma gonna stop there for now. Next the RF amp. I should really double check when I make a parts list. any suggestions on constructing a 22? resistor? Doesn't sound like much but I like to start with the base values before I go all crazy 'sperimentin'.

Try mechanical pencil leads... Got any carbon rods?

Maybe some resistance wire out of a car?

Believe it. I've been testing the ? of quite a few things. I figure something is bound to work.
Gotta go to bed early though, nurr :(
I'll just pick it up tomorrow. A couple or three crappy old speaker coils might get me there :)

Series/parallel some junquebox resistors. A little over the 22? value shouldn't hurt. Or, you might luck out and get it bang-on.

Suggestions for making a 500? pot? Already thought about two 1K's joined at the shaft and paralleled.
I could just use a 1K and series it with a 25? pot and use the 25 for fine tuning the 1K since the 1K wouldn't be very forgiving.

It just came in today!
I want to finish this other project first. I'm about to test the amp/regen section as an amp. It must be shielded but for test purposes I'm jus going to place it in a cardboard tube wrapped in extruded aluminum.

Isn't the NE602 s'pozed to be really scarce? [I know, it's been superseded by the NE612]. :geek

I dunno. I have at least 2 in the house from my Ramsey kit building days of the mid 90's.
I was just looking at the shortwave kit I got from them in 95 and was wondering how I would rebuild the front end for AMBCB.
