Sprained my right shoulder a few days back (what a f'ing nightmare) and will be seeing the doc tomorrow. I'm about sure she will offer a cortizone shot somewhere. Any reason I should decline?

Don't drive yourself.
I got one a few years ago. Made me stupid for a few hours. Could barely spell my name. Yep. Cortisone.

Ask if you can relax in their office for a bit afterwards, to get your bearings.

Only 11 more days of excruciating pain left to go.
*insert political dig here*

it's actually getting a bit better. I have to do mild exercises to keep it from getting "frozen".

Please keep up the therapy. Ah, to be 12 again.

Last time I snapped my back, I went through three days of hell before going to the doc. Doc prescribed Advil (this was before Advil was OTC). Ibuprofen. Relief was almost immediate.

Here's a secret for pain (but don't sue me if it kills ya). Take two Advil and one Extra Strength Tylenol at the same time. DO NOT abuse this, but it's worth a try. I've tried this formula a couple times and it works for me and the lab says my liver still works.

Never had a cortizone shot in my life. I hear the shot itself is painful.

i can't do anti-inflammatory meds, they make me feel quite out of it. i can't even drink a classic coke, it has too much caffeine.

I damaged my rotator cuff at work a few years back now. It hurt all the time.

At first I thought I would just shake it off in a few days but it kept hurting, so much I could not sleep or even do my job.

I went to the doc after spending my whole weekend and one work day in excruciating pain. Doc told me to take three days off while I waited for a trip though the MRI.

While I waited he gave me six Demerol pills and told me to only take them, one at a time, if the pain was really bad. They helped a lot.

Oh, the pain was still there but it hurt me almost as much as it hurts you reading about my pain now.

Like it was someone else’s.

After I got the MRI and they told me the cuff was definitely damaged and would require several months of therapy he also told me they would administer hydrocortisone shots during the therapy.

Yes, the shot itself hurt and I told them to stop. The nurse told me to stop being such a baby and finished it.

It burned.

It aggravated the pain to a totally unacceptable level for me, then I was informed they couldn’t give me more Demerol until the hydrocortisone had worked its way out of my system.

They suggested I use Tylenol III. But I get really mean when I use codeine and I didn’t think it would help anyway.

So I had enough pain I could not work. I did get workman’s comp while I could not work but I’d rather have had the Demerol and kept working.

The real problem with hydrocortisone is it takes a long time to work its way out of your system once it is in and if you have an adverse reaction to it your stuck with it.

The real problem with working while taking Demerol is you can actually dislocate appendages and not notice much.

I’ve been taking vicodin for my bad back the last two or so years and it is wonderful only take it when the pain starts and like Demerol it still hurts but its like someone describing their pain to you,… don’t really care all that much.
