So, does anyone know what the S in Windows 10S stands for? Officially, that is?

Just got home from helping a friend set up his new Lenovo laptop. It came with Win10S, and I’m convinced that the S stands for Sh1t.

What a pain in the tuchus.

Tried to load an AV package to start, only to learn that only Microsoft approved apps, in the M$ App Store, can be installed. For safety and security reasons, of course.

Google Chrome? Firefox? Malwarebytes? Fuggedaboudit.

Had I known this in advance, I’d have told him to get a “real” W10 license, not this limited money generator for Redmond.

I’ve suggested he return it, if he can. We’ll see.

Here is everything you probably didn't want to know about Windows 10S:

What is Windows 10 S and how is it different from regular Windows 10? (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/may/03/windows-10-s-microsoft-faster-pc-comparison)

Thanks.

Again, had I known and been asked...

Thanks for the link. For radio purposes I still use XP and 7/8.

Other than that I use Ubuntu/Mint etc

I have same on VMs.

Also have Win10 Pro in VMs, but can boot it natively on this system if needed.

You can disable "S" mode. Here is a link that explains how to do it.

That's like the shit the Dirty Bastards Of Redmond pulled making the Windiws repair boot stick I made from their official ISO useless unless I disable Secure Boot that offers no security at all. Explaining would be too long for here, let's just say you're better off with Insecure Bootshit turned off. Linux is a good decision for the geek oriented...

All you folks hating on W10 make me laugh.

BTW, your cell phone does at least as much tracking as W10 does. Today's cell phones certainly do more tracking of you than that Bill Gates microchip embedded in your face mask. :icon_wink:

I'll take W10 over XP, Vista, W7, and W8. Especially 8. W8 was a complete cluster fuck.

My problem isn’t with Win 10 per se.

it’s with this limited version, that us being marketed to people who aren’t tech savvy enough to realize that they ain’t getting what they think they are.

in my friend's case, he was misled by the sales rep... who may not have known the difference either.

Man you crack me up, that sounds SO familiar! If not for the timing I'd ask if he bought it at Rat Shack where their motto was "At Radio Shack you have questions, we have blank stares."

Those who would have worked for Crappy Overpriced Cellphone Shack in years past now work for Far From Best Buy.
