I have been looking for one of these for years. Everything I saw was either way over priced, or junk, or both. I got this on E-bay at a reasonable price , and it works well. CQ 6

Nice! I enjoyed the 211 I had, a 251 would've been better. A 551: WOW!

Having much fun with it lately? Seems to me you are in a great area for six. Around here there is some more six going on now that analog TV2 is up band, but it seems too quiet.

I'm working on a 5/8 wave ground plane for six so I can see if I can get into more than one repeater since they are all a long ways off with lots of hills in between. I would like to make a beam for ssb/cw too, hopefully before the next seasonal peak starts.

Have fun man, looks like a great example of a great rig!

I have an IC-251, not the D. It has the internal power supply.
Supply has just enough oomph to power a 6m transverter

So, it's my 6N2 portable/mobile

I had the 551. It was quite the rig for 6 meters back then. A lot of synthesizer whine though.
Only problem I ever had was that the scale inside the meter came loose and dropped down. I took the meter apart and re glued it. Boy, THAT was a fragile project!!

I would say Welcome To The Island but you're an old hack here. Congrats on your post though. Maybe we can loosen your tongue up a bit with a drink.

Have fun man, looks like a great example of a great rig! There is quite a bit of local ssb activity around here on 6. Am and FM , not so much. I would love to find someone around this area to do some 6 AM. Maybe fire up the old Heath 6er. I do have a rock for 50.4.

If I hook an FTV-901R up to either the FT-980 or the FT-901DM I'm QRV on 6M; all modes. Could also get the TS-660 out.

What's everyone running for an antenna on 6AM?

That tiki is always screaming in pain, no amount of alcohol helps. Maybe if you take that little umbrella out of his head? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W0fzsJMzAM

What's everyone running for an antenna on 6AM? There is a local net that meets on 6 AM here Fred. But, I don't know the details about it, except that it's on 50.4

A bunch of us used to meet on 50.4 in the 80s. I had a Lafayette HA-460 and others in the group had various rigs. Clegg 66er was one. Antennas were dipoles.

At the moment I have a 6/2/440 vertical connected to my FT-726Rs - and frankly, it doesn't play too well at the bottom end of the band. Gotta do something omnidirectional for net use. Thinking about a set of loops for 6/2/432.

This is the antenna I use for my summertime back yard station. A bit pricey but works well.

Nice score. I had seen one of these at the annual club auction in Eau Claire a decade or so back and have wanted one ever since.

All mode on Magic Band is way overkill, the most used modes are SSB and FM. When there is an exceptional opening the AMers come out of the woodwork with their boat anchors, Collins, Clegg, and assorted tubes made of unobtanium. Once upon a time in West Creek I used and repaired a Heathkit SB-110, used, repaired, used, repaired, used, repaired, when working I worked every propagation mode there is. It's the only band I know where all propagation modes exist, one day sporadic E, next day meteors, next day aurora, pure magic.

My Ft2000-D does actually quite well in AM.
As does the Heathkit SB-1000 rebuild with new 3-500ZG.
