View Full Version : Icom 706 mkllg T/R relay issue
Hey all,
I've had this 706 llg since birth and it has always had an intermittent issue with the T/R relay (my guess) not completing the connection back to receive. Now that I have this GG amp it seems to do it quite regularly when I try to use the amp. As always, if I rapidly key/unkey the mic it will eventually let the receive audio back to the speaker. Which is a bitch when you're trying to copy your report in the contest.
Have any of you had a similar experience with your Ickum and what did you discover was the fix? I can't remember the relay number as I'm typing this but I looked it up at one point off of the schematic or the flow chart, can't remember which. It sure is a PITA and it does it more now even without the amp, which tells me it's going to crap out when I'm getting P5 or some other ATNO. Ideas, suggestions, help? I want to touch the brains I trust here before I go spending any money and/or damaging my rig. Me and golden screwdrivers have bad juju.
Thanks ahead of time, 73 Eric WZ7U
Do you have the service manual for the rig?
I do not, but I see a time coming when I will need one.
Find an electronic copy and tell me the P/N for the relay they use.
Well, somewhere I had all that figgered out beforehand when I had more solid intel. Now, I had to go and actually look at the schematics and flow chart to try to figger it out. Near as I can tell, the offending relay should be RL1. They call it an order number (weird) of 6330001330, description of AG201344 on page 78 of the service manual pdf. RL's 2-3 and RL's 4-16 are different yet all these reside on the Filter Unit board. Near as I can tell, RL1 is the suspect.
I can send you a copy of the pdf if interested. Just need to know where to. Thanks for chiming in Fred, appreciate it!
oh, got myself banned from eHam again. I think I'll let it stand this time. Not sure I want to add to their traffic count anymore, bunch of trolls...

If you find a pdf version of the service manual, can you please post a link to it? I too have a MKII and would like to have it available.
Thanks,
See if this is the relay in question: https://www3.panasonic.biz/ac/e/search_num/index.jsp?c=detail&part_no=AG201344
If so, commonly available at places like Mouser.
And what was the infraction that got you banned?

I used that number on Mouser but it came back borked. Have had no luck finding it on any of the places I have bookmarked for parts, but I have not done a google search for it yet. fyi.

Wow, that's cool. Thanks man, I couldn't find it to save my ass. Funny thing is I first looked it up on the phone and I thought it said $4,640. I about shit! Then I put on my glasses and had quite the laugh.
I need to get that one coming right away. I'd like to be all set for winter before hand. For a change.
