After almost 25 years of service, my Johnson 500 transmitter is down for maintenance ,repairs, and a good cleaning. It's a two piece transmitter. The rf deck is about the size of a Valiant and weighs 58 lbs. The modulator/Power Supply weighs 125 lbs. The transmitter runs a 4-400 in the final, modulated by a pair of 811's It puts about 360 watts of carrier.

All over everywhere. It's what happens when someone throws their big ole Johnson on the table for everyone to admire. Kinda makes your grid dip, don't it?.

(damnit Carl, you and Bob get in here. Ball's in your courts.)

Seriously. I had a Viking Challenger, and one crystal cut for 7.129. My first transmitter. Miss that thing.

Anyway, seriously. Cool old transmitter. I'm finally going to be able to enjoy myself a bit again, and am resuming renovations on this old Victorian. I'd love to have one of the small rooms fixed up with vintage gear like that.

Well, the RF deck and power supply are almost finished. The 4-400 is putting out about 360 watts of carrier on 75 meters. I painted the cabinet for the RF deck, and the P/S cabinet is in primer, waiting for Johnson Maroon top coat. The only issue I see, the grid drive is a little low on 40 meters. When I get the P/S back together, Ill take the RF deck out of the cabinet, and tweak the 40 meter driver coil.

I just got the Yaesu twins assembled and put back inline this afternoon. 15w or so of AM carrier is all I'm going to be able to get out of this setup if I don't want to cook the PA tubes.

This one's going to stay on 10M, I think. The slopers I have connected to the tuner/antenna switch are A-D DX-SWL, and while the antennas allow me to use both FR-101s effectively for SWBC listening they don't work very well in the ham bands. Thus, the IMAX gets the nod and it's a 10-12M antenna at best.

Will need to figure something else out to get on 3885 or 7290.
