Greetings Folks
My first post here, so if this thread had already been started, then shame on me : ) Anyway I have a history of junking everything out. I have built a few things, but seems the jounque box is more important then almost anything : ) I am building a few things now too, but I want to know, just how on earth do you quit junking??? I did Elmer a gent a couple years back, and gave him a ton (almost literally) of goodies, but need a few more builders in my area, as I cannot seem to build the willpower to just throw : ) Let me know if there is a junkers anonymous around here...

Started at the ripe age of 12 years gathering hunting for disbanded tv's radio's to part out to build my own stuff in varying bouts of failure and success.
Dragged that stuff with me through 5 house moves, till last year my son and me decided it was time to say goodbye to most of it, still clinging on to some boxes in heavy withdrawal syndrome...

Dumped 23 cubic meters of stuff away, most old stuff household things, old magazines nobody wanted to have including Sinclair ZX 80, COCO stuff etc.
So, yes it seems i caan feel with you about the addiction of gathering and hunting for parts.

I know you were joking but, believe it or not, there are a number of people here in this marina who have done exactly that. It seems that once you have a boat, people start offering you their old, unwanted boats—often for free.

I'm kind of curious, what is then done with the vessels? What investment would be needed (on average) to make the boats sail-able or sale-able?

One last thought, how much has the boat been stripped prior to gifting.

The offered boat are usually old, in need of a lot of repair and have become a liability to the owner. There's a saying among boaters: "The most expensive boat is the one you get for free." From what I've seen that's fairly accurate and I'd probably decline should one be offered to me. Even if it was the same model as mine that I could strip for spares, there aren't really all that many usable parts on an old sailboat—maybe the mast and boom, possibly some interior parts—and disposing of an old fiberglass hull can be problematic and expensive. The majority of the guys* I've talked to regret accepting a free boat. After all, a spare mast might be a nice thing to have but where do you keep a 40 foot super heavy-duty aluminum tube when you live on a 30-foot boat?

But if you have the skills, lots of free storage space and lots of lots of spare time, I suppose it could work out okay.

I've managed to avoid it. And Heaven's Gate. And Jurassic Park II the Lost World, Star Trek III: The Search For More Sequels, Star Trek V: Spock Has a Brother? Who Knew? as well as a host of other terrible movies.

I watched the entire series of Star Trek: Enterprise with Scott Bakula. The series was poo pooed early on because ... Scott Bakula but I thought he made a good captain for the series. The woman who played the Vulcan was hot. No, I mean HOTT! Of course that doesn't mean I didn't have a SERIOUS appreciation for Hoshi as well. Go on ... call me sexist.

I thought it was better than Voyager.Voyager had an interesting concept, but I never thought it was enough to build a series around. Especially once the two crews "united" which removed the bulk of the conflict, and without conflict there is no drama.

It essentially dissolved into the New Alien Species of the Week, and most of the stories just weren't that good.

The few with Q were, until the real life relationship between Kate Mulgrew and John DeLancie became... well, fell apart as I remember, and after that happened, you never saw Q again. Of course, that also removed the deus ex machina aspect; all Q had to do was snap his fingers, and they'd be back in the Alpha Quadrant & the show would be over, so the writers couldn't let THAT happen.

I took a real liking towards Deep Space 9. That really was a departure from the 'traditional' Star Trek series. It's too bad that the producers decided there would be no movie tie-ins or anything else after DS9 ended, that their story was done, complete, finit, kaput. It might have been interesting...
