In case you were curious as to the size of the incision required to remove a fist sized nodule and half a thyroid.

Initial biopsy and genetic testing were inconclusive, pathology should have more conclusive information by my follow up visit on Friday.

I hear the Colombian necktie is coming back in to style. Odds are good that it will be benign. Clocked on to this last August. Was running a course of antibiotics for a dental infection while on the call list for a root canal. Spent a day out on the water near Wayalusing as part of a MABAS strike team searching for a missing swimmer. End of the day I was in rough shape, infection had spread so I went in to urgent care to change antibiotic. On call doctor asked about the enlarged thyroid and convinced me to go get it checked out. Was my understanding that it was only a 5cm growth when I went in Friday to have it removed. Was shocked to come to in recovery and find out how large it really had been. Spent the night in the hospital flirting with cute nurses and watching movies. Home now resting. Have the week off work, but will probably go back in on Wednesday. Meanwhile, I'll ride over to Appleton tomorrow to inspect a new fire engine we have on the assembly line at Pierce and take advantage of things like Netflix and Amazon prime. Might even squeeze in a little ham radio.

I'm not showing my wife your photo because she will get ideas about doing that to me. However, the cut would be much longer, and stitches would not follow the cutting.

I do hope the test results show no further issues. I hope you get laid, too. Takes your mind off your troubles for awhile. At least I think I remember from way back that that is the case.

Still hanging in there. Got a pile of snow dropped on us yesterday. One of the probies came along and cleared my driveway for me. I was able to manage the sidewalk and around the hydrant on my own. It's amazing how such a little thing can sap the energy from a guy like it does. Stopped in to the shop for a short visit yesterday as well. Boss asked if I was ready to come back. The spirit is willing. Discontinued the painkillers on Monday evening. Amazing at how sore my neck muscles actually are still. Going to be a Netflix sort of day today I think. I'll run down to the fire station later this afternoon. I need to do a little prep ahead of appearing in front of the City Council tomorrow evening.

Not so much pain at this point as just a constant soreness. Looking forward to getting the stitches out on Friday, they're starting to itch.

I filled the spot left by a firefighter in his late 20's early 30's that died from cancer. One of my previous chiefs died of a brain tumor, he was in his 50's. Another firefighter on my first department, early 30's and brain tumor. There does seem to be a lot.
