View Full Version : Who is putting up Christmas Lights?

My Father always told me that the formula to getting into the proper Xmas spirit was 1 part "Tennessee Sour Mash" and 2 parts "lightbulbs". I bought a bunch of colored and white LED light strings for outside (they are really getting cheap now ). The former owner of the house we now live in left a stack of 16 ft wood strips. So far I built a 10 ft Xmas Star, a 12 ft Xmas tree, strung lights across my gutters and fences. I would say "Tacky" best describes it. We needed to light a fire under our neighbors, only one neighbor has decorations up so far.

Now where is my shot glass.

Nope like the last 25 years, not even having Xmas stuff here.
Just ordinary days for us, i don't go for all the fake hoopla.

The limestone springs can be tasted in every sip but be careful as the sugars are high and you could be tasting it again the following day.

Quite a number of people here at the marina have put Christmas lights on their boats.

My sole Christmas decoration is a light display which I built for 'DSG many years ago. It's a BASIC Stamp experimenter board with a BS-24Sp attached, and with 16 LEDs of various colors connected to the I/O pins.

Program loop has a couple of random number generators; one for pin select and the other for "on" duration. The LEDs themselves are transparent, high brightness types. They're aimed at angles to each other so the thing projects a decent sized cone of light on the ceiling.

A relic of times gone past, no doubt.

Edenton sponsors a parade of boats at the marina during our yearly tree lighting ceremony. The sailboats are usually the most beautifully decorated.

Update it with laser diodes and you are good for another 10 years!

This area has something on the Willamette River in Portland that is similar, in that a bunch of boats get all lit up with cool stuff and go putting up and down along the town. Very festive indeed.

Got the star burst laser light doomaflotchie on a stick in the front yard, shinning laser beams all across the front of the house. Also have a sign that says beware of sharks.

The things I do for my wife. But that's what I get for marrying a shiksa.

I had a Shiksa shaver once, but since Weasels Rip My Flesh I've been using a Norelco.

Then there's that Chanukanuka (English CH sound as Larry Feldman N2HGY pronounces it) bush that brings back memories of an embarrassing president, so please call it a Hanukah tree. When you decorate it hang Dreidels, kids dancing around it singing the Dreidel Song make such a happy sound. Later the adults can sing and dance another happy song, Hava Nagila. Oh, when you hang Menorahs on it, be sure they're electric treif, if you use Kosher candles your Hanukah may not be a happy one. Before you say it, I know you'll have your Menorah in the usual safe place.

L'chaim! Mazel tov! And for worshipers on that pagan holiday, Merry Christmas. The rest of us know it's a Jewish holiday as we celebrate our capital gains on New Year's Eve in The Bahamas. Happy Jew Year!

KB2VXA assumes no responsibility for being so politically incorrect, it was Larry's idea, honest!

Oh, never fear. I've been doing that for years. It's the tree with blue and white (clear) lights, the rest are red and white (clear)

I've actually had people tell me "There's no such thing as a Hanukkah Bush!" To which I reply, "sure there is, that's what I say it stands for, so that's what it is!"

Put the tree up. The grandkids came over. We let them decorate it. They had the time of their young lives. They put all the ornaments on one side. It fell over.

Everyone is going to talk about that for years to come at family dinners and get togethers. That's an awesome memory that every kid should have, or some sort something similar.

I'll be decorating my window with christmas lights as I do every year. It's a pretty simple display. Several loops of common color miniature lights around the frame and in the center a cris-cross made up from an old vintage late 1930's/early 40's series wired light set which I power via an autotransformer at a reduced voltage to preserve the life of those ancient bulbs and also reduces heating so the bulbs burn moderately warm instead of hot.

I used to put a Santa on the grill; it was a 2d sort of thing, no lights, just a Santa. All happy and shit. Not sure if I can find a pic of that or not, but I'm off to look.

I could see putting one of the reindeer on the grill, but Santa? Oh the horror!

The decorations are in the yard and on the fencing. We decided to put lights on the small tree/bush in the front yard (looks like a member of the same family as Rose of Sharon but it's a different colored flower, very nice though); I used the blue and white (clear) LED's on that one, so it's the official Chanukah Bush for 2016.

All that's left is to hand the icicle lights from the gutters. Over my objections, I really don't like climbing that ladder to put those up.

I was told it is some white stuff that falls from above, made by that guy in the sky.

But then "they" could be full of shit, too.

It's real.

And yes, there's a manger right next to it. That's for the Boss. And that's what I get for marrying a shiksa -- mixed messages.:-D

There's also a non-religious stag on the other side of it. (Not that deer are kosher either). Big deal.

< snip > Hah! Hadn't really thought about it that way, outside of the standing wisecrack... with it's origins in Yiddish style humor (think Henny Youngman)

"Jesus? Nice Jewish boy. Went into his Father's business!"

I know nought of this "snow" thing of which you speak.Form of precipitation. Similar to 'rain' only colder.
