I've long been aware of the deterioration of NiMh batteries in most cordless phones due to the constant (and unnecessary) recharging each time the phone is hung up. Batteries lose their charge and the phones cut out if you speak for too long. It's easy to spot this and replace them with at least the "1000 charge" versions, or so I thought.

The symptoms now are simply cutting out as soon as the phone is picked up and appears to be a massive increase in internal resistance so on a meter they appear good until a small load is applied.

I have a few (3) of them leaving them off the charger till one of them sends an audio signal it needs charging, then it gets charged, replaced th 700 mA batteries for 1 Amp types in the last year or so.( old ones worked 6 years and still work.
Siemens cordless ones DECT types.
No need to charge your smartphone all the time as well, my new DooGee has an 4 amp battery and gets charged when it hits 40% and off the charger when full.
