I'm still green as a ham....

But 10 meters was open this evening and I made a few contacts- then jumped down to 40 and nabbed I2VRN. Especially fun because my last contact with him was in 2013 on a station owned by K8WZS.

Also have my VHF/UHF antennas back up. Checked into a Skywarn net. Then played around with my TS-711a.... love that little radio.

Ok.. so it's not impressive- but damned I had fun!

10 open? No way dude! OK, maybe up there it is.

I thought I was doing good listening to ZL1WN on 14.252. Listening, since this location apparently doesn't want to let any rf out...only in it seems. He seems to be hearing your part of the world fine

Good job working 10. Enjoy!

I'm sorry. I left and had to wash dishes right after I posted that. Had I known I would have spun the knob and listened for you.

"I'm still green as a ham...."
Since when is a ham green? (;->)

After all that belly aching about no propagation it's GREAT to hear things are picking up! Here I sit a paper ham sans antennas, do you know how much that pisses me off? DO YOU???

You do not like them, Sam-I-Am?

Yes. Yes I do.

So? What are you going to do about it? Surely (don't say it) there is a club with a club station, within an hour's drive, that you can join? Hell, there's one at the airport a couple of miles from my Mother's place, you're not THAT far from her...

On a related note:

My first contact with I2VRN was done on my elmer's station. This last one was made on my station.

Just got off the phone with Rick. The Dude is golden. What a fine guy. I'm just one of many he walked through getting "air worthy".

His TS-480 sat is in for repair. Hope he gets it back quickly. Miss chatting with him on 60 meters.

What's going on here? I'm not Sam, nor am I pestering David to eat green eggs and ham. It's the eggs that are green, not the ham, whomever drew that never read Dr. Seuss to the wee bairns. BTW there really are green eggs. Some time ago I bought some 1,000 year old eggs in Chinatown, most were black, but a couple weren't left in the solution long enough and were green.

Re paper ham:
"What are you going to do about it?"
Nothing I CAN do about it. Trying not to bore you with a long story, once upon a time I had a job and the VXAmobile, every time I moved I joined a local club, went to meetings and participated in activities like hamfesters and Field Day. The last club shall remain nameless, everything went well until I became disabled and could no longer afford to own a car. That's when I started begging rides to meetings and activities, each and every one I asked didn't want to be bothered picking me up. Sure, they have a nice club station, but I can't use it when I can't get to it. Well, no sense belonging to a club when I have no way to get to meetings and activities, now is there?

Confirmed.

Remember, eQSL does not count when it comes to confirmations!

I was just confirming that I could hear the stations.

Chasing paper is silly. I like working DX, and QSL if they do.

Other than that, I'd rather rag chew.

ARRL confirmations, sure. They still count for eQSL.

Not everyone worships at the ARRL altar.

I used to kind of be into that, until I realized how silly it sounded when every time I've listen to the local Thursday FM net, there'd invariably be a guy list off every DXCC entity he'd worked in the last week. East and West Wonga Wonga? Ooooh.

I'll cherish my 6M cards from Greenland and Scotland because they were the first DX I ever heard as a new and stupid Tech. But beyond that, meh...

Some of the BEST ragchews have been with Aussies.

Funny stuff.

Once had an hour-long ragchew with a guy from the UK on 10m. We were cracking each other up for the whole time. Probably the high point of my time as a ham.

Yea, the UK folks are fun too. I had an AMAZING time last year on 10 meter AM with two UK stations, and a few east coast Canucks and USA stations. About a three hour roundtable, and we even dropped to QRP for a while.
