View Full Version : June 3rd
We learned from our rep yesterday that the Pirates have selected us to be honored at a June home game as "Season Ticket Holders of the Game." The only question (well, besides did we want the honor, of course) was what date.
We picked Friday, June 3rd as our first choice, and that's what we got.
No idea what all is involved, besides being on the field before the game and introduced. Guess I better learn to suck in my stomach...
Val (our rep) even made of point of telling us that Little Miss Field Day is included. Irony is that we dropped her seat from our ticket plan this year, since she's now working full time for the summer for Aramark at the park... Selling Dip-N-Dots, "the ice cream of the future". (Hey, it's a job!). So she has to ask for the night off.
Consider yourselves invited to come. Well, those of you who can come, at least, or at least want to... Oh, yeah. Never mind.
Hey, after 16 years as a Season Ticket Holder, and enduring 20 losing seasons, it's the least that the Pirates can do, right?

Are you trying to bring the wrath of da Pope down on us?
Besides, this is a baseball thread.

I'm sorry, you are right, I couldn't contain my enthusiasm.

Why do you think I'd care? Hockey is a...Canadian sport. Ask Gerry.

Just being cautious. All righty then.
BTW, ever seen the Cup? It is pretty.

(That is an observation, not a complaint. Normally, I LIKE that in a person!)
No, I meant THIS Cup:

It is impressive, is it not? Hard to believe that it's made a trip to the bottom of a swimming pool (twice), amongst other indignities.

I saw Davis the Cup once, in a shopping mall south of San Francisco that was built on the site of a horse racing track that burned down under mysterious circumstances.
I should have known better than to open my big mouth. Guarantees something will happen, or in this case, won't.
I don't believe we're getting "honored" at Friday's game after all.
Last we heard from our rep was that someone would be in touch with us. That was over 2 weeks ago. Haven't heard a word. Haven't even heard back from our rep -- no replies to email or voice mail.
This is not what I'd consider a good sign.
With less than 48 hours to go, if they were going to mail us something, like tickets, it would have been here by now. Or someone would have called or emailed, just to let us know where we were supposed to check in and at about what time.
We also had until 7 PM to turn in our regular tickets for Friday, for future credit to another game. So even if someone comes through at the last minute tomorrow, which I doubt, it still costs us. This is what I get for being cautious, not wanting to turn in what we had until we knew for sure what was going on.
The worst part is that Little Miss Field Day asked for the evening off work to go to this. So we now are short a ticket. So either she doesn't sit with us, or one of us doesn't go... and either way, it cost her a working day.
Needless to say, as Yoda would put it, unhappy I am.
Now personally, I couldn't care less. I'd just as soon skip the whole thing. But the Boss & LMFD were really into this, and really looking forward to it. Until it sunk in tonight that someone dropped the ball. I really do NOT like it when someone screws with them. When I finally get a hold of our rep, she's getting an earful and then some. Probably will never talk to me again...
Disappointing and irritating.

Ron, just show up like you're all supposed to be there for the whole enchilada.

I hate to bring this up, but since you mentioned LMFD works at the field, does the phrase " employees and their families are not eligible to participate " mean anything?
Sorry.

Sorry.
LMFD works for Aramark, who is the food service contractor. She does not work for the Pirates.
But, that is a solid concern. We asked our rep, at the time (she specifically said that she wanted LMFD with us), and she told us that so long as LMFD didn't appear in her Aramark uniform, there was no problem at all.
...and if our rep was mistaken on that, someone should have told us long before now.
Ron, just show up like you're all supposed to be there for the whole enchilada.
Tempting. But... Where? When? Who do we ask for?
Nah.
The Boss is holding out hope for a last minute call and apology. I don't think it will happen. I have a hunch that this got fobbed off to an intern who dropped the ball, so to speak, and forgot all about this. Wouldn't be the first time.
The Boss is more trusting than I am.
Well... and speaking of deep subjects...
When I got home yesterday, the Boss was on the phone with our rep. They simply couldn't figure out what happened to the emails sent to the Boss telling us the particulars. So I said, send it to my work email. Came through. Forwarded it to the Boss. Came through. And with that, we were "in"
Showed up just after 5:30 tonight. Got herded with a bunch of other people... the Fan of the Game & family, and the Honorary First Pitch & family, and two different groups presenting donations (and fake checks for display) to Pirates Charities. All in all, almost 40 people.
We get checked in, wait a few minutes, then get herded down the hallway, past both club houses, the indoor batting cage, the press room, and so forth. Just before we get brought out to the field, we're handed our T-Shirts, since this is a Free Shirt Friday -- they wanted to make sure we got ours. A little after 6, we're brought out through the Home Dugout tunnel and onto the field. Got to see the tail end of the Angel's batting practice, while we were waiting, and saw out the grounds crew takes the practice cages and stuff away and gets the field ready.
About 6:40, things get busy. The various groups get introduced and shown on the scoreboard (yea). Then we and the FotG get positioned on the edge of the grass, over by the corner of the dugout. FotG gets introduced. Then we get introduced. 30 seconds of trying to not look like idiots as we stand there and wave.

One of the staff took some photos and then emailed them to us. We'll also be getting an "official" photo, both electronic and hard copy, in a few days.
So we wave, then we get escorted off, down the Racing Pierogie tunnel, and through the back tunnels until we walk through a door and we're back in the public part of the park. Met up with our rep, got our tickets, and sat down to enjoy the game. (Unfortunately, the starting pitcher for the Pirates didn't do so hot, but these things happen)
Didn't get to meet any of the players, though they were starting to fill up the dugout as we left. (Probably why we exited out the other tunnel). Did talk with a few of the Pirate staff out there with us (to make sure we behaved, of course... heh heh); turned out one of them was an intern there 10 years ago, same time our son was. Cute girl; now I have some blackmail to use if we don't get to see more of our grandkids...
About the only downside? The Boss wanted them to introduce us the "Notarius Family", but they only introduced her. That's OK. I'm not at all upset. There are worse things, like giving up 3 easy runs in the top of the first, another in the top of the second, 2 more in the top of the 3rd... you get the idea.
So all in all, it worked out in the end. It was fun. And I never want to do it again.
