Just lunch.

I have absolutely no desire to go. The place looked like a dump when I first saw pictures of it in 2000 or so.

Hamfests are the utimate teases, anyway. Even if you're at a good one, there are acres and acres of swapmeet tables full of stuff that you'd never buy for those prices. A 5U4GB rectifier? Sure, that'll be $200. But it was blessed by the Pope (not Da Pope) and spent some time embedded in a goat's ass in Tuscany.

Especially if you were caught in the lower flea market when the fluid flow commenced.

So much for my new hiking boots.

Oh, wait, it really wasn't that bad.

Seriously, if even half the people who claimed intimate knowledge (so to speak) of that incident were actually there, they would have set an all time attendance record.

I think I'd rather put my $600 towards a trip to Florence if for no other reason than the attendees appear to be significantly less unattractive. And I didn't see a single mobility scooter.

But dude, what about schlepping all the goodies back on commercial airlines? Seems like a small fortune in baggage fees to get yer chit all banged up, not to mention the potential customs nightmare.
Probably a good trip if yer just a lookieloo. Unless of course you planned on using yer G5. Or was it a G6? ;-}

That could be a concern, but I rarely buy any large, big-ticket items at a ham fest anyhow. I mostly go to see what's there and to talk to other hams.

Yes. Very much so.

Six of us are splitting the cost of this room (3 bedrooms, 2 beds each, plus a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room) in the Campus South dorm. My share of the cost came to $80. That is NOT per night -- that's for 3 nights, Thursday through Saturday, check out on Sunday (tho Mike & I tend to head home Saturday night)

Never saw you. Stinker.

Had a few nice chats with K4PIH at the MARS table, I have some pictures but I won't be downloading the camera until after I get home tomorrow (didn't bother with the laptop this year, just the iPad).

Ran into Jeff K1NSS also, he was at the KB3ISH (I think that's the call) QSL booth. He's doing very well, he just doesn't have a lot of time for most forums these days. A little burned-out on them. In case anyone was wondering. He did give me some autographed artwork though, which will end up in the shack.

Jeff was at the KB3IFH QSL booth, with samples, mugs, you name it. As I think I mentioned earlier, we had a nice little chat on Friday. I went by again on Saturday a couple of times, but he was busy with (potential) customers, so I didn't want to interrupt him.

Also ran into Jack K4PIH as the MARS booth (several times), and we also had a few nice chats during the course of the weekend.
1465314654
In the second picture, Jack's chatting with my friend Mike K3AIR, USAF (Retired). I had a feeling when I introduced them that they'd have a good time exchanging war stories, and I was right. Mike did tell the story of how he faked out a Soviet intelligence officer, but I don't think he told Jack the story of how he was asked to transfer out of Berlin.

A few other quick shots, for now... I'll have more, but I have about 300 photos to go through, and I have to resize them to get them to upload... (I know, only ~300, I restrained myself this year)

14662 14663

Part of the Yaesu display, actually located on the next aisle over from their main display, was this display of some of their "original" radios.

14656

Notice in the background a shot of Carol W4CLM. I think most of the collection was hers; she certainly knew everything about it (I got a 3 minute speech on the FT-200/Tempo One's history). They were also selling off old Fox Tango T-Shirts, hats, and mousepads, for a buck. I picked up a T-Shirt -- for NB3C, who's a big Yaesu fan. Also got a Yaesu hat for him, since this was the 60th anniversary hat.

There was another table showing some of the early V/UHF rigs, including the FT-227R and it's 220 & 6 meter brothers

Yes, Lemon James was back. Different spot in the flea market, and because it was cool and dreary, she wasn't in her usual tube top (maybe she was under the camo jacke, I don't know). That's her on the left of the van.
14657

The usual, ah, collection of individuals with interesting headgear were there.

14658
On a radio related note, you may have heard the news that leaked on Monday or Tuesday about the Elecraft KX2. They had one on display, and around 25 - 30 with them for sale. This is the display one. My friend Bill NY9H from WACOM bought one on Friday.

Yeah, something funny is going on. I post the photos, they post OK. I check on the thread later, they're not there. I edit the post, they come back. Very annoying!

On Edit:
Earlier I had trouble uploading from IE. I switched to Chrome; everything seemed to update. But some of the pictures would not load a short time afterwards, and wouldn't load on my iPad.

I've reposted the pictures (below) individually, via IE, which is now working. Go figure.
