I've heard of Stoner as a CB radio manufacturer but never knew they made a ham rig. Looking around on the Web, it would appear you've got a damned rare radio, Janet. They may have made less than 100 of the things.

I've seen one years ago. Didn't get to try it.

I'd get one just for the name. How absolutely awesome Janet.

To properly display your new radio, you'll need to build a copy of the late Don Stoner's operating position...

That is really cool looking. Is it a QRP rig?

According to the product announcement below, it can run up to 200 watts.

A really nice radio! Aside from being technically advanced radios for their day, I think those Stoner and Stoner McKay Dymek radios were designed to blend in with your home's furniture, like a stereo component from that era. They have nice wood side panels instead of being just a square metal box.

Going to drop this in - to the left is my recently acquired SOC-40. Just need to find an OSC-40 and SWR-40...maybe a HAM-40 if I get lucky.

Actually, what I need to find is a source of the aluminum extrusions which were used as panel dividers and top/bottom cabinet trim. I can fabricate the accessories - including the cabinet and the knobs themselves. The small aluminum trim is going to be tricky to reproduce without a CNC mill.

Fred, do you have the tools to properly bend aluminum?

A couple of years ago, I bought a replica AC-1 aluminum case. Then the ham who took the orders lost interest in them. He eventually sent me... The flat aluminum sheet, with holds punched, but not bent. (The original deal was for the actual bent aluminum replica). And I don't have the right tools to turn that into a case.

The ham in question (up in VE land) stopped responding to emails, and some people never got even that much or their money back. I've long since given up on him.

I'd still like to do something with it, but I don't want to screw up the thing, either.

I kind of thought so.

The guy I got it from, who got it from the original owner says 'he didn't think the original owner would have changed the knobs', but I don't know. The Pro 10-80 I had previously had the silver knobs, so I tend to believe these aren't original.

There's no serial number on it, so I can't tell where it was in the production line. I'm not sure how many of these were made.

I have a pdf of the manual, which is cool.

It seems to work fine.

Actually, it's not.

It puts 'out' about 100 watts if you whistle into the mic.

There's no CW or AM setting on the radio.

It also is jumpered to cover the CB band. This apparently was set up intentionally so the user could transition from CB to ham radio. The CB output was allegedly supposed to be only the legal limit, but on this radio, it does the full 100 and covers the free band.

The lack of a tuning knob (it uses up/down switches) takes a little getting used to.

Who knows, the original knob design might not have held up after so many years. Plastics can become brittle and crack into pieces with age. I like the look of the knobs that are on Janet's radio. They are similar to what you find on some Watkins Johnson radios of that era.

An area ham friend does. I need to get in contact with him about a few odds and ends; will bring your project up.

Understood. And I don't expect a freebie, his time is worth something.

I'd have to look at the sheet again to see if the 'bend' points are marked. If not, well I do have an original AC-1 (not in the best of shape) to get the exact dimensions off of -- one of the few pieces of gear I have left from my WN2 days.
