Wind here is INSAINE, so far peak gust of 63MPH. lost power twice so far, and I think every tree around the city is getting pushed into the power lines causing all kinds of havoc on my receiver...

the power arcing not only takes out HF but its actually making a ton of noise on UHF/440. making it a bit hard working the MO QSO party

It appears that that weather came east and hit us last night about 1:30 AM. It started off with a strong thunderstorm accompanied by a considerable amount of hail. The winds were gusting out of the west/nw during the thunderstorm and the wind swept hailstones were pounding on my window. Since I generally keep my window open about an inch or two the hail hit against the window sill and bounced inside as I awoke to the crash of thunder and cold wind and pellets of ice hitting me in the face. After the storm passed it rained for a while and then the rain changed to sleet and by morning a light snow. Now it's just clear and windy. There is still frozen ice and hail on my windowsill.. And just a few days ago it was near 80 deg. Personally I don't mind this cold, I prefer the cold to heat and humidity. But for those anxious for spring warmth it ain't happening. Winter is back for at least a few more days.

If we're transmitting on 13.310, we deserve to be punished.

and now its snowing. and just watched the neighbors privacy fence take off.

As I read your post yesterday, the same thing was going on here; didn't get the snow, it was sleet on the south end of the storm. The power was out for around 45,000 customers at 11:00 p.m. yesterday. There were so many electric lines down and trees across the streets, the police had to close numerous roads and streets while, putting everything else on hold. All the traffics lights died or went to default Red-Yellow flashing mode.

By now, most of the outages have been restored but, the traffic lights are out of sync.

Winds were clocked at 65 mph.

.

ETA: Down under 4000 power outages still exist.

It's a big change when you are not used to high winds.

The closest Intellicast weather station (three miles away) recorded a peak of 93mph in the last four years.

But 40-60mph sustained winds for days is common. My main HF doublet is droopy with pulleys.

3.5 years, and the swinging trees have non taken it down for four years.

Isn't that a military comm frequency, when it's used at all?

I did my daily walk, at the park next to the river yesterday. I came home with windburn on my face. The geese who usually hang out by the water, moved about 100 yards inland to get away from the wind. This is nuts.

The wind is blowing so hard here, the water in the sound is actually being blown towards the south shore. Our beach actually receded about 50 feet. Kind of looks like Moses parted the waters. My wife didn't see that as religious symbolism, but instead she did note that I should get out there and clean up the trash on the bottom. Meanwhile I'm going to be real careful, because I think my wife and God are in cahoots with each other.

Isn't that what happens right before the tsunami hits??

I should have been so lucky. I spent half a day dragging sunken logs, bottles, a crab trap and about 50 ft of steel cable off the bottom. Tough work, but my feet will feel better next time I wade or swim.

Wow! That's a lot of stuff. Like you said, at least your feet will appreciate it. Sunken logs are heavy; they have to be since their drier cousins weigh a buttload. I rediscovered that fact yesterday. Ungh!

What's the bottom like there—sand or mud?

KK4AMI

It is both sand and mud. Mud is a subjective description since this is decaying vegetable matter that collects along our stone jetty.
