Don't laugh.

Anyone know if anyone out there would want an old IBM RS6000 for parts? [No, I don't know the model number offhand ]

Found this out at the staff meeting today... we have an old one stashed in the subbasement, it's been mothballed for 16 years since last used. It was retained (with drives & data) in the event that for a legal related request, we had to dig up old data.

We had to retain it for 15 years to satisfy various rules/regulations. Time's up.

The Boss doesn't want to bother with eBay, incidentally. And the drives would get pulled (and destroyed) prior to disposition.

(This is NOT a "free to a good home" offer -- I'm just wondering if the thing has ANY value left at this point in time)

I'm curious, more than interested. What model number? There was a variety of processors, PS/2 vs PCI, etc.

If I wanted something to fill my shack, I'd buy a Gates transmitter. :hand:

They work great as office space heaters.

I have one running in my home office for that reason. It has a serial terminal connected to it still(WYSE serial terminal), so I can get "cool points", and I sometimes log into it. I use it for some rudimentary data collection as well.

But, in reality, it's the heater for my home office, and it gets turned off in summer.

Probably a MCA bus, Motorola proc, 8 drive? F51 model, likely (Many, many small businesses had these).

I used/worked on them some for heavy duty CAD stations back in the day.

I haven't had a chance to go down to the basement and look. I haven't forgotten.
