Have you done it? Think you could do it?

My partner and I are rather house poor right now. We own a home that was built in 1955, we make our bills, we put a little in savings each month, but we can't afford the gut job it would take to remodel the home into something we would truly be happy with. So we talked with a realtor this week, and found out that we stand to make a SIGNIFICANT profit because the market is so good. So we've decided to strike while the iron is hot and list our home.

We've also decided to full time it in an RV for a year to sock away an extra $500 a month in addition to our regular savings deposits. We'll be trading in our 26' trailer for a 33-36' trailer with slides and more amenities, and we've already searched out all the long term parks in our area. there is everything from coastal living, to country living, to even very near downtown.

He is very gung-ho on the idea, but I'm still somewhat nervous. The thing is, houses in our area have stayed on the market for 16 days or less over the last 6 months. Most comps in our neighborhood were on the market for 9, 4, and even 1 single day. So if we do list it, we need to be prepared to move swiftly.

What do you think? Would you, could you, have you?

Your market is hotter than mine. Strike while the iron is hot!

We bought our house for $88K, and right now comps selling are anywhere from $110 to $130, and they are only staying on the market for a day or two.

If you can pull it off then go for it. Get tired of the view? ROAD TRIP!

Thats what Kenny keeps saying. LOL

There's an RV park here on the bay, like 3 blocks from the bay, that we are thinking of starting at. He said he'd like to park it on Galveston for a month next Summer too.

I'd love to live out of an RV from time to time with all the household things including a car and a bike.
Like this one. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c79/bebop5/photobucket-204724-1412117804002_zpsfd1892dc.jpg
Add a good internet connection and a crank up mobile antenna ...

Get a trucking CDL and go trucking. Travel and GET PAID for it. I more or less live in my truck 28 days a month. I'd go nuts if I had to deal with a day job. Then again, i hate people in general so I'd go nuts just being near anyone for a day or longer...lol

Check out the "eyes" near the bottom. A custom paint job is in order... like a Mad Max road warrior? A couple of antennas, a space critter? Why shout GET OFF MY LAWN when the trailer does it for you? Yeah, I've been watching too many sci-fi movies.

Wife and I want to be 'snow birds' some day. She plans to work for another 10 years, so I may become one before she does. There are still places in the west where you can camp for free.

What about walking across the country on foot ? Something I wanted to do since I was a child. And I may do it yet.

Part of me wants to thru-hike the AT, but that seems too much like work :yum:

Ultramarathons are enough for me...at least they're all over within 24 hours...

Just hop a plane to Argentina.

On June 24, 2009, Sanford publicly revealed that he had engaged in an affair with María Belén Chapur (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sanford_disappearance_and_extramarital_affair ), an Argentine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentine) woman.[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sanford#cite_note-postandcourier.com-4)[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sanford#cite_note-thestate.com-5)[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sanford#cite_note-6)[7] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Sanford#cite_note-7) He used money set aside for official state travel to conduct his affair which, while it led to censure (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censure) by the South Carolina General Assembly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Carolina_General_Assembly) and his resignation as chairman of the Republican Governors Association (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Governors_Association), did not result in Sanford's actual resignation from the governorship.

Well the sign went up in the yard on Monday, the listing hit the MLS yesterday at 3pm, and by 7pm last night we had our first showing scheduled. Its being shown today at 3pm.

We thought that, too, but poor planning on our trip last year found us in the LA zone with no motel one night. The nearest available room was in Bakersfield. So, we decided to spend a night in the car at Wal Mart. To our horror, the Wal Marts there close at night, and we were not welcome in the lot! We managed to huddle with another small group of squatters for the night at a second Wal Mart location. It was not a relaxing night by any stretch of the imagination.

We have RV'd at Wal Mart, more than once, but we've also found a fair number that won't allow it. There are always people camped at the one nearest my house, even in the dead of winter.

I want to do that too. I've relegated it as "something to do if the wife leaves the earth before myself".

the JMT is still doable, and John Muir is downright inspirational.

I read too much Muir and Thoreau growing up, they ruined me.

I've been on the highest portions of the AT, coincidentally where I've probably made my longest 2M FM contact and where I've come the closest to being hit by lightning...
