Cats are too smart for that. They con us humans into taking care of them instead.

Dogs have owners. Cats have servants.

I really haven't been on HF much over past past few years. I'm amazed how bad the bands are, especially 20 meters. Things should get better in the fall. I was tuning around on Sunday morning, and the CB band was jumping. Heard many stations from 4 and 5 land. Then I tuned across 10 meters and all I heard were a couple of propagation beacons. Where the hell are the hams?

Per the two bolded items, George: The answer you seek lies within. Take your general-coverage receiver and tune from roughly 27.350 to 28.000 and from 26.960 downwards when the "regular 40" are active.

I've even heard call signs being given out-of-band.

That's amazing. Why would somebody do that?

Because they are not too swift?

I like your setup, I haven't done a back yard expedition in a long time and you have inspired me. It's nice to get outside with the radios on a great summer day, kind of like field day with a beer fridge and a bathroom. Kudos on the setup and FWIW the Butternut is still the best commercially made HF vertical in my opinion.

Welcome to The Island, Curtis. As soon as he gets back from the beach, the barkeep will pour you the adult beverage of your choice, gratis.

I see you're in Pasco. That's not too far from Janet, WX7P, who's in Benton City.

I hope that radio is on AM !!!Funny you should mention that. I worked WA1QIX on 40 AM Last week . He was operating from rattlesnake Island. He said the 706 sounded pretty good on AM.

Sounds great. Glad to hear you worked one of the early AM Gangstas. I remember listening to Steve-QIX way back in the 1970's when I was still in high school. He, among others, were the inspiration to get my license.

BTW the backyard setup looks great.

Yeah, our good ol' friend Phil. I remember we spent many a night talking on 75 AM into the wee hours. I remember he put out a very respectable signal with that butternut vertical in the attic. He was right up there with most of the AM Gangstas.
