Not really a fan of most '50s cars, but it's nice to see one that looks like it gets some use, and doesn't just sit around getting looked at.

Nice!

Fender skirts and the spare! On the crown Vic, the molding that runs side to side across the roof, is also duplicated inside the car on the headliner. Great styling.

George, there is a new show on Discovery Channel called "Cuban Chrome" shot in the Havana area following members of a car club there. Saw it last week I think it's on Monday nights @ 8:00 EDT. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out, not a bad show.

Just one gem? You should have been at the Vintage this weekend, the golf course was full of gorgeous cars from that era.

I only got to see a few, we were busy and I never did get a break to walk up off the course.

(And yes, I have some pictures, haven't had a chance to download them from the flash card yet)

http://www.post-gazette.com/local/city/2015/07/20/Big-crowd-turns-out-for-Vintage-Grand-Prix/stories/201507200055 -- the photos shown were taken at my corner!

I watched that show the other night, pretty good show. The Cubans don't have access to parts like we do so they have become really good at making parts and also at repurposing parts. In the last episode they had a 53 Olds in which the original V8 had blown so they replaced it with a 4 cylinder boat engine.

I also like the Crown Vic, I remember there were still a lot of them running around where I lived in the 60's. The thunderbird decal on the boot is a little over the top but it's a beautiful car.

Just saw this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBpddpK2k).

But can it mow the lawn?

As long as we're dreamin', I'd like to cruise in one of these, maybe with a ski rack?

The Ferrari was owned by the gentleman who owned the Mini dealership, who arranged for the tent, the patron rides, and the BMW 'Ring Taxi'. The other three are from the Patron Parade.

Take special note of the left front fender. Methinks one of the pace car drivers... who are all part of the PVGP Safety Committee... has some 'splain'in to do, Lucy.

But if you'd like the car, call the dealership. Since it's obviously used, there should be a nice discount on it...

No? Well, how about a few of these... (all from the Saturday practice & timing sessions)

One note... that last photo, the lead car (the Lotus #7 Silver) has been one of my favorite cars for years; it was featured on my first WN3VAW Photo QSL card from 1990. Sad to say, on the last lap of the last race of the day on Sunday, at Flag Corner 20, literally a few hundred yards from & in sight of start/finish, with the checkered flag out (no, he wasn't the winner)... hit a light pole, smashed up the side of the car, and dropped some live electrical wires on the track.

(The driver's fine. Ticked off, but fine.)

The BMW "Ring Taxi" that was up from South Carolina... yes, that's what they call it, see http://www.bmw-motorsport.com/en/fan-area/driving-experience/bmw-ring-taxi/tickets-and-dates.html for more info about that...

Two of the four Mini's that were also giving patron rides. The BMW went out first, followed by the Mini's -- one of the nicknames was "Mother Duck & Ducklings," or for short, "The Flock"... yes, that's your opening for bad puns.

Now, the guys from the Mini dealership & their sponsor (the lawyer's name on the side... boy, was he ticked off that the PA announcer kept mis-pronouncing his name... ) were great. They kept offering us food, beer, water... and we needed the water... beer, cookies, beer... they had a lot of beer. They had quite a crowd in there, and considering that we couldn't close the snow fence (they needed access to the cars for the patron rides -- $50 a head to see if you'd leave a brown or yellow stain on the seat; no one did, but there were a few pale faces emerging from some of the rides -- and all to charity) they made a point in keeping people safe and out of the hot zone.

I really can't say enough about them.

They did have some hostesses (for lack of a better term), 2 on Saturday, 8 on Sunday. According to their shirts, they were the Grid Girls. (I know, I know, it's sexist -- I didn't name them!) Here's one of them, with the Mini drivers

The gentleman in white is the Corner Captain, George. I think he was checking to see of the young lady was wearing clothes, or paint. She was a good sport about it, clearly was having fun... and made a few off-color jokes herself.

Now, the 6 who were there on Sunday, we'd hoped to get a picture with them. (Well, George did, at least. As did Dan, the other radio op on the corner, and... well, never mind.) They all left about 4. George asked if they could stick around 5 or 10 more minutes (we were near the end of a session); one of the girls said no, their coach was picking them up; they were there because the coach was friends with the owner.

George asked what sport? The girl told him... they were on the Bikini Team. She was (or appeared to be) dead serious; I'm not sure if she was, or if she was just pulling George's proverbial leg. But I'm going to find out!

I see that. Don't know what happened, I uploaded through Chrome & checked the post after. I'll reload them as soon as I can.

On Edit: I brought up the post on the LRT coming in. I couldn't see the attachments, until I went in and looked at all uploaded pictures -- and there they were. So, edited the post, deleted the "bad" attachment links, reloaded the pictures.

Sorry about that. System must have thought these came from Over Yonder or something.

I already started rewriting the lyrics in my head... a mildly significant Minneapolis band.

Another Suburbs hit was "Tape My Wife to the Ceiling". :)
