New Horizons just had it's close encounter with Pluto:

NASA has found many interesting and unexpected things, like ice mountains over 10,000' (3050m) high.

More cool images here (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/newhorizons/main/index.html).

Our newspaper gave us info that navigation data for New Horizons was supplied by a gentleman who works for our Dominion Astrophysical Observatory via the Canadian Space Agency.........most interesting as well, is the hope that the close photographs of Pluto will re-instate it's planet status as opposed to that ridiculous "dwarf planet" stupidity!

So true

Much like the day that Apollo 11 lifted off to go to the moon, this day. And those that were alive, at the time, remember where they were when their mission hit the target.

It is truly amazing. Unfortunately, IMHO there might be more proof that Pluto is not one of us. Pluto's orbit that crosses through Neptune's seems to indicate that it was captured by our solar system. They are also wondering about the lack of cratering which might indicate that it was a more recent acquisition.

Pluto and Charon push the envelope of a moon/planet thang... it's more of a dual planet thang. :)

You betcha! In a mere 1,057 days, barring any catastrophic, life altering events, I shall return home from work for the last time.

Ain't got no time for no def star... :)

This is what I love about these types of missions. We go thinking we have it figured out.. only to find that our assumptions could be wrong.

I LOVE SCIENCE!

Aw come on, everyone with an "open mind" knows NASA faked those photos. If they were real photos you'd see the buildings and the cities on Pluto. NASA is trying to fool the sheeple by making holograms of Pluto with HAARP.:snicker:

Seriously it is amazing and the pictures are very interesting. I was just funning over the conspiracy theorists who are already saying the images are fake.

"We go thinking we have it figured out.. only to find that our assumptions could be wrong."

You know how to spell ASS U ME don't you? "Use the Farts Luke, use the Farts." You saw Darth Vader evacuate the gas attack and what happened when they reached a source of ignition, the main reactor, heh heh heh.

It might according to some astronomers. Personally it matters little to me if they switch it back to a "planet" or keep it as a "dwarf planet". I'll let the astronomers argue this one out...
