Are we doing one here?

I'm planning to operate the '130V and the '660...possibly at a friend's place to demonstrate amateur radio, and possibly on battery power. (This is a change from several years past when I operated bicycle mobile and used VHF/UHF FM simplex.)

Hope to work a few of our members if any of you folks are so inclined...

Sadly I'll be working. No hf in the truck :(

I finally hooked up with the local club here, W7AZ.

They will be running 3A with NO LOGGING PROGRAM!

That's going to be interesting. FD old school.

I'm thinking this is probably a hunt and pounce group judging from the email I got and the photos on their website. I'm going to try to run 'em anyway and see if I can keep up with a paper log and separate paper dupe sheet.

I haven't logged THAT way since 80's!

Maybe Fred Flintstone will stop by. :neener:

Carbon paper, I remember that stuff. We used to use it to get dinosaur tracks...

W4EZ, 9A battery. Split operation with two local clubs.

I'll likely be on 40 or 15, whichever's open.

I LIKE THAT!!! I prefer to do a paper log and then do the DUPE SHEET later but they have these DARN COMPUTERS they want us to use. I still log on a yellow tablet and let the guy on the computer try to transcribe the contacts I made.

I will be out there on 20 Meter SSB with my 1964 Hallicrafters SR-400 pumping away into the 3 element tribander at 100Ft as "WA6BGS" BIG GREEN SPIDER
maybe I can sneak away and do a little RTTY with my Ultimate GO Kit VER 2!
I run from around 11AM Sat to about 7PM when I go home for a few hours of sleep and am back at the mic at about 6AM Sunday morning to finish off the morning. Who knows what happens at night, usually not much!

Dupe checking is so easy in 'MM, I can't imagine going back to a time when that wasn't available. It slows down rate so much...

Since I have to work, I'm going to miss Field Day this year for the first time since I got my ticket. But living in the extreme SW corner of the country confers a significant advantage during a US/Canada-only event: if you use a properly-aimed antenna with a reasonably wide main lobe, you don't need to be able to rotate it. This is why Moxons work so well here.

We're expecting massive rain and thunder for the weekend. I was considering moving the shack to the back yard. We will see what the weather brings us.
If I operate 120vac in the back yard, what would that make me (FD rules wize)?

Sorry. We're not allowed to watch the original music video in the United States because blah blah blah.

I plan to get the K2 out and operate battery power to my vertical in the backyard. Ice cold adult beverages will be consumed.

And other 1Ds might get a little pissy if you work them, because it's no points. But whatever.

Thank You. You'd think I had done this before but no. I sat in on a couple of FDs years ago but did not get OTA. I brought drinks.

Yea, when I do FD, I don't get on the air much in the big groups.
I do tech support, because I can, and they can't.

Seriously, I like putting it up, packing it up, and keeping it going.

I'm in MN for a family emergency. It's going OK.
Might visit the WØBU group in Burnsville.

I got invited.

I've got multiple invites to the clubs and groups in the area - but let's see how I fare with the QRP efforts here. Got a narrow SSB filter for the '130V in the mail this morning. It's in the rig, both of the transceivers I'm going to use have been aligned and checked...we're ready to go.

The setup begins. I won't make it out to the site until tomorrow AM.

Now that I have a DSLR this year, planning on taking a lot of photos when I'm not scrambling madly to cover from lightning.

Might be a washout this year for my area unless the FD ops sit in their cars or lean twos.

KC3AM 3A DE

Won't be there until some time in the afternoon. Just in time for the rain, which be a major downpour by Saturday night.

If that gets too bad, then maybe a bit of S&P as KJ3N 1E DE.

The area crew has a barn and 5 HF operating positions planned. That is, if the rain stays away. We're all hoping...

I was going to our club's sight, but it is too damn wet, with flash flood watch and so on. Went there last night helped with antennas.

I've put about a dozen 20M SSB, two 10M SSB and one 6M SSB contacts in the log thus far - all with 10w output. The bands are meh...and I'm hoping that a nice sporadic E event will open up the upper HF/lower VHF bands.

40/15 SSB ended up with about 260 QSOs. I only did a couple stints, had a nice run going on 15 Sunday morning. Amazing what a little bit of height and antenna gain does with 5 watts.

30 contacts from 11:09z Sunday to 18:12z Sunday with the IC-703. Had a 3 hour gap in there from 13:18 to 16:03. 10 & 15 were shite.

Didn't bother to stay/operate at the usual FD site. Too much rain for me. Hats off to the others who stayed. Hope they did well.

I didn't get to make it to the sites which extended me an invite, due to having to change the car's spark plug wires...in the friggin' rain...which was NOT fun.

The station adhered to the KISS principle: Low power (10w and under), wire antennas, paper logs. Of course, the huge 6M opening of Sunday morning went unworked due to lack of GOOD (steerable, horizontally polarized) antennas.

Best treats of the event were the unsolicited comments regarding 'big' signal levels and audio - then afterwards relating to the ops what I was running. :snicker:

One future goal is to completely isolate the '130V, '660 and a couple other rigs of similar power class from AC mains dependency. Battery bank of 200-300AH, charge controller, wind/solar and an ISO-Power strip to interface with the dedicated RigRunner strips. I may keep the PS-20s wired through the ISO-Power module for float charging duties in the dead of winter. No sun + no wind = no juice.
