I'm guessing this why your FCC was getting anal about people collecting all these call signs awhile back!

I suppose this was a distinct hobby within a hobby of collecting call signs? :dunno:

I wondered where the FCC was getting their funding these days.

I'm curious at the ten-year gap between the first ones, the two years to the next, and then off the exponential loony curve.

I bet nobody on the local repeater bothers with his call sign anymore :shifty:

Look at the "good guy/bad guy" feedback listings associated with any of those calls on the various swap sites and see what kind of patterns emerge.

Frequent call swaps are done by scammers in order to stay ahead of the mob. Not saying that's the case here, however. Just one of several possibilities.

I bet nobody on the local repeater bothers with his call sign anymore :shifty:Well, the first gap is easy. Predates Vanity, so while you could request a new call. you got what they gave you.

Later on, though... something is seriously amuck here. The W0BKR - WU0R - W0BKR could be nothing more than "buyer remorse", but only if taken out of context. If he was a contester, one could argue he changed his call long enough to get a "rare" prefix for the CQ WPX 'tests, then changed back (it's rare, but it has happened before). But in context...

Strange. Very strange. And he's burned through a lot of calls and taken them out of circulation for awhile.

Now, if you want to see another example of... let's see unusual behavior...

Oh? Since there's a fee for every vanity app, and the vanity fee is supposed to be equal to their "cost" to process... I don't think so.

But it's the tiny handful of hams who do things like this that cause grief for the rest of us.

Sweet Baby Jesus. It appears that Janet is a mere amateur when it comes to collecting call signs.

Not changing this one, UNLESS we move out of the 7th Call district, which is extremely unlikely...

Question - why not be a trustee for both? :-p

I know plenty of contesters that have a contest call and a personal one...Mr. Krelic and I have some history. It's not pleasant. You really don't want to hear about that bit of dirty laundry... or his brother-in-law & buddy, the skinheads.

Ahem.

Suffice to say that this is not a situation I can be totally objective on.

With that disclaimer in mind...

My personal opinion is that Mr. Krelic has some... issues. One of them is his need to circulate amongst these three calls. I don't know, nor do I wish to know, why he continues to do this & keep at least one if not two 1x2 calls out of circulation.

When I applied for W3WN, I received an email from him. Congratulating me on the probable new call? No. Lambasting me for it. Calling me one of his "heroes" for never changing calls, how dare I let him down... yada yada yada. In light of our past, and considering the tone of the email, I never did finish reading it.

At one point, he chewed me out (again via email) for using the wrong call. I (and others) didn't know he'd switched back to K3IVB. He claimed at the time that this was permanent, because in her dying days, his recently deceased wife could only remember that call, so he was going to keep it. Uh huh. Well, history... it is what it is.

He is a troubled person.

So if you want to suggest he convert one of these to a club call, be my guest. Just don't mention to him that you know me.

I'll skip the obvious wisecracks as redundant.

W3WN is actually my third call. My first was a WN2, and when we moved to PA, the FCC changed it to WN3VAW. I got it back when I got relicensed (a small gap during my first couple of years of college, but I was active in the college club), and held it for about 28 years.

It wasn't, looking back, the wisest thing I'd ever done, getting it back. I would have gotten one of the N3AAx calls, along with others who got their Techs or Generals at the same exam session I got relicensed at. Many times over the years, I wondered if I'd made the right, er, call.

However, I never cared for a 2x2 or a 2x1. Not for myself, that is. Call me old-fashioned, but I wanted a 1x2... and a W 1x2 if possible.

Obviously, I got it.

This call I'm keeping.

This is not meant as a criticism, per se, of anyone else who changes calls, for whatever reasonable reason. (Although I do think my friend Greg should have kept KQ3DX instead of changing to NB3C, it just doesn't seem right!). Just how I feel about my own call.

I may go to a 2x2 or 1x3 in the future, but it'd have to be something that's never been issued before. Having someone else's call sign with no family relation to them...meh.

I had a 1x2 6 call for awhile, W6PV. BION, the call never felt right, as I had associated all w6xx calls with really old guys. Got the license plate, so I'm cool.

In addition, I found the 2x1 calls always seemed to add a db or 2 to my signal especially with the JAs.

Now that I have my original 2x1 back, I'm not changing it.

Let's see, WN6RGR, WB6RGR, N6FF, WF0H, and now K0RGR. I'm a serial callsign changer, too, but over the space of 50 years. I've also been trustee for two club calls - WA6WSW, and W6VPV, which was my dad's call. I'll stick with this one unless we move out of the zero district. I'm actually talking to the wife about moving just 30 miles, over the border into Wisconsin, where they don't tax Social Security benefits like they do here. Small move, 6% raise in pay - good deal. Then I'd get my dad's other old call - W9YDW.
