Had an on air talk about this local some months ago. since the fcc won't recycle calls (after its been issued only way to get it is via vanity) what happens when all the calls in a district gets used up?

all the group C calls have been burned up.

and if you look at 4 land all the group A calls have been burned and very close to burning up all the group B calls. group D has a bit to go KM4JCX last issued in that.

so what happens when all the group ABC and D calls end up burned up (ie issued). wonder if they will begin to recycle starting back at KA4AAA or will they just add a letter or number like KA4AAAA or KA41AAA maybe they will just quit looking at call districts and issue anything never been issued (like KK7AAA issued to someone in 4 land)

as it looks 4 land will be the 1st to run out.

Well, presuming that the FCC doesn't change anything...

When all of the Group A call blocks are used up (and I believe all areas are into the A series 2x2's), the Group B call blocks will be used.

When all of the Group B call blocks are used up, since all of the Group C calls were issued, we'll drop down to Group D.

Sequential call issues from Group D right now are in the "K" 2x3 series. Once those are used, we'll probably go back to the "W" 2x3 series. The last time the W 2x3's were sequentially issued (prior to 28 March 1978), most areas were either in the WB or WD blocks (WC being reserved for RACES stations, even then). So I'd anticipate the FCC starting with the WE#aaa calls and continuing from there.

What next? Well, the "N" series 2x3 calls are not currently available to the Amateur Service. But that could change.

Or, the FCC could decide to go back and start re-issuing previously issued but expired calls from the other blocks. The computer technology to manage this is a lot better today than it was 35 years ago!

There was a time long ago when FCC started issuing any unassigned call from the existing blocks. That's why my original call was WB6RGR and my little brother got WB6HVW five years later. For a while there, they were issuing WA6 calls that way. My guess is that they might do that again.

I think we should create a new Novice license and use callsigns like the VK's, where their 'Foundation Class' hams have four letter suffixes for their calls that begin with 'F".

I was thinking about how fortunate I am to have an indoor toilet.

I feel fortunate to have access to a toilet, period, albeit outside. Actually, it belongs to the guy a few hectors over, but he will never know as long as I don't let the door slam. Actually, he did offer me the use of it once. He said I could climb into the basement during a tornado warning. Bastid

in 1971, they issued WA6MHZ to me, even though by then they were well into the WB6s!
Not sure why they did that, maybe they forsaw I would have an excellent Amateur Career and needed a good call! I don't know if WN6MHZ never upgraded or what. But they sent me this so I said, FINE! I will take it! (NOT A VANITY!)

Moved to Illinois, then moved to WA.

Just so happens, this call is my original extra call from 1989 and since the chances of leaving WA are extremely slim, I won't change it again.

Really.

How about the "Infamously retired" call signs?

WB2OTK
K4OKA
K1MAN

Just to name a few. Will they ever be recycled or will they be permanently placed on a 'Do Not Issue' list?

I imagine that in a few decades, it's possible that some of these (and other) calls will be put back into the pool. I wouldn't expect it for at least another 20 - 25 years, though. If ever.

I worked a call very close to K1MAN (Can't recall the exact callsign), and the operator (On PSK) thought it funny every called him "Glen" lol.

One of the funniest callsigns I have seen is KB8IPP, it is not a vanity call. The licensee's name is B. Beer!!!! We should send him an Island invite.
