I downloaded this beautiful 747-400 passenger jet for my flightgear sim. For its maiden voyage I flew it from KLGA in New York to KORD (O'hare) in Chicago using real weather for the entire flight. I flew at about 320 knots at 30,000 ft and when I was withing 100 mi of Chicago I made a nice gradual decent and lined up with the runway for an ILS approach and made a beautiful soft smooth landing, engaged the speed brakes and reverse thrust and came to a smooth stop. It was snowing lightly in Chicago. Then I engaged forward thrust, release the brakes and tried to taxi but the plane wouldn't move no matter how much thrust I applied. I double checked alll my controls and still nothing. I could hear the engines reving up but no motion. So I switch to an outside view of my airplane and noticed something funny. Somehow my wings and engines dissappeared. I had a fuselage, tail, rudder, wheels but no wings.

So please, if anyone finds my 747 wings laying around anywhere out in cyberspace please arrange to have them shipped to O'Hare airport so I can fly back home...:snicker:

In the meantime I think I'll go back to flying my Lockheed Constellation. It's not quite as fast but at least its wings never disappeared. :)

You forgot the old trick of finding your lost cell phone, borrow one, call yours and track down where the ring is coming from. You could hear the missing engines, so why didn't you go looking for them? It's too late now and the way you fly I wouldn't be surprised (to use an old instructor's phrase) you'll never get your wings. Yep, you didn't qualify on the '47 so go back to the Connie.

Sounds like it was quite as smooth a landing as you thought. I did a Google earth view, and it looks like the wings and engines ended up just outside the cocktail lounge at Midway.

You probably left them in Buffalo.

I can go one step better. If I lose my phone I can trigger an audible and visual alarm. I can also locate it via GPS and pinpoint its exact location on a map.

I suspect the crime rate in Chicago has gone up and they added it to the sim.. As soon as I landed someone stole the wings and engines and sold them for scrap.

Yep, you didn't qualify on the '47 so go back to the Connie.

Well, I prefer the Connie because it has props. I never trusted aeroplanes without propellers.
Besides as far as jets go I also have an awesome 707 with fully functional panels including the engineers panel including functional window, wing, engine and fuel de-icers and functional engine fire detection and pull levers + extinguishers.

With his thermal shorts and old watch.

It was absolute zero and the wings stopped functioning.

Most likely it was a Malaysian Airlines simulator.......demonstrating an entire missing plane.....but that was an Boeing 777 not a 747....so they got it half right along with the missing wings.... Oh well

Either way, I'd pay money to watch a 747/777 land or take off at Midway. From a distance.

But should you ever find yourself at Midway and need to spend the night, there is a compound of hotels just down the street (Hilton/Marriott type). There is a great TGI Fridays there (usually don't care for them) but they have one helluva steak and shrimp with their Jack Daniels sauce. Damn it's good. I don't know if the place is still there.

You don't have to cross the border to spell "neighbourhood" ........ you know you want to......it's the Canajun way......it's what the world is coming to........really!

That and the "Made up" temperatures, how many different PHD degrees do you need to calculate the all elusive "C" temp? I think it has been proved that absolute zero makes wings fall off of planes in the Chicago area.

I'm thinking the "C" means Canadian temp. Or as they say "Temperatoure".

Here's something Cowtheif would be proud of My 707 and Connie both use an APU to start up. But his pink Bell 47 formerly owned by the king of Saudi Arabia uses an APU onboard.

Fly United Pacific. If our wings fall off it doesn't matter, we still have rails.

Oh, it's clear what the problem was..

Apparently it was freezing.

You must have flapped your wings too hard.

(As opposed to fapping too hard)

Two wisecracks come to mind:

(1) Drink a Red Bull. That will get you wings.
(2) Quit flying Wonder Woman's invisible plane.
