RS clearances...

So, RS is closing. Sad day, IMO. No more perusing the components, dreaming up the next project. But, 60% of Arduino stuff, and 50% of components.

I ended up going there and dumping ~$150 on parts and arduino sheilds. Time to stock up. Multimeters are 50% off, tools 40%.

Same with the store right near me. Nothing marked down, except a couple of things at 30%. I found out about the deep discount via our maker lab here.

He listens to me, the local Cell Phone Shack was replaced by a music store years ago. They sell instruments so no Temptations there either.

Stopped by my nearest.. Only stuff on sale looked like it was typical post christmas RC toys. They didn't have an Arduino Yun which I'd like to get.

I'm presuming all the good shit was returned to vendors or repossessed..a lot of vendors/suppliers/manufacturers have an absolute minimum retail shelf price which the retailer cannot charge less, even with a "clearance sale".

No, not at all! I picked up the two Makershed parts kits (1 & 2), along with the book for ~$100 for the set. Along with their robotics kit.

I suppose the RS's in my area are a bit different than everywhere else... Cell phones were never really pushed that hard to me. I walked past them, right to the well stocked parts cabinets.

Same with the one here, they're helpful, but don't push stuff, not terribly knowledgeable, which is fine, I don't expect them to help unless I know the RS part number. I'll def miss them, I don't do all that much lately in electronics, but now it will be the difference between a 5 minute ride or even just a stop on way to/from gym, or a 25 minute drive to a Fry's or All Electronics for even a little connector.
Or waiting on shipping for something online.

according to the published list of stores that will close, none of the stores i've checked were on the list. so it makes sense that they'd not have a lot on sale.
