It'll last until we boot ISIS from certain oil producing states/cities in the middle east. Oils is so low because ISIS is dumping it on the open market at dirt cheap prices. Once we move them out then it'll be back to business as usual.
Low prices are nice until you realize the TRUE cost being paid by the victims of ISIS rule

That's a gross oversimplification, Brian. There are many factors involved in the current low oil prices. Among other things, the fact that the United States is now a net exporter of oil because of the fracking technology that US oil companies developed has made a significant difference.
You're right about Americans not being aware of the true cost of oil, but it's more than just ISIS.

Yes we EXPORT but we still IMPORT more than we export. Some of what we import comes through middle eastern channels and thats where ISIS is dumping oil. If we were 100% reliant on domestic oil, I'd be jumping for joy! But we're not so im not so optimistic

The US imports relatively little oil from the middle east. We still get some from Saudi Arabia but most of it comes from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Nigeria.

This time next month we'll be on the road somewhere, so I am hoping the cheap gas sticks around that long. My guess is that the U.S. oil producers will all throw in the towel, and gas will go back up to $5 by then. But I hope I'm wrong.

Depends per country, but most have high fixed taxes on fuel here, so that a oil price drop is just making a few 10 cents of difference.
I paid in the hayday € 1.74 for a liter petrol now €1.44, so just a drop of 30 euro cents a liter.
Germany isn't much better though they have a bit lower taxes to start with.
UK now around or just above a pound per liter.( €1,30 )
Diesel here is cheaper as petrol, around the € 1.30 now.
Looking at that the USA has seen the largest drop in price at the pumps.
Cor....how much have gas prices dropped over there in the EU?
UK 112p (1.12 pounds) per litre and falling. It's almost reached the point where the fuel is free and the rest is all tax. We are informed that all foreign exporters, including Saudi, are losing money. They've relied so much on oil revenue for their lifestyles and government spending that, unless the price goes up soon, they will postpone exporting until that time.
That implies a price rise. I'm tempted to buy a 2000 litre HDPE tank to keep diesel.

heir own words though, they want domination back on the selling field, I expect the prices to keep diving and stay there for some time to come.
Long enough to make fracking and tar sand oil much too expensive to produce, and kill off some other exporters as well.

But the sabres are rattling in the group of baboons...possible fuel tax increase?? Granted, it's been a number of years since the last increase, but the baboons keep putting the fuel tax proceeds into the general fund, not the highway trust fund. That's why our infrastructure is crumbling, and the FHWA is crying that there is no money to fix the roads.

I guess I don'tunderstand the government complaining about low gas prices. It seems to me that more gasis being sold, tax is based on volume sold and not price per gallon, hence more fuel sold means more tax revenue.
I think the government sees that people have a few more bucks left in theirpaycheck with these lower gas prices, and the bastids want it. That way peopleare kept in their place and can't improve their lifestyle or increase theirsavings. I guess when people start to get a little bit ahead financially, assholes like the Koch brothers start to get nervous. Fuckers................

Same here with the PU. It has a 5.7L that gets around 16-18MPG. We need it because we do a lot of hauling of feed and building materials since the stores are quite a ways from us. We also need it to tow the 20' trailer with the forklift or tractor on it. I doubt we could do that with a Prius. We really don't go out much, but when we do, we try to consolidate the trip and make as many stops as we can. I don't care how cheap gas gets, I hate driving in town with all the maroons on the road.

Out here, there are all kinds of places to go four-wheeling; all over the state. What I find interesting, is that there are a metric shit ton of tricked out four wheel drive trucks around, and damn few have so much as a scratch them. Most have probably never been in 4WD. These, by the way, are the assholes that park sideways in parking lots and take up half a dozen or more parking spots. It's obvious they have never been off road. The paint in the trailer receivers is not even scratched, so it's obvious a hitch has never been in place to tow anything. Some of these rigs have to have cost some severe megabucks. I just don't get it. I'm all for a nice ride, but why invest all that $$ on features that will never be used? I suppose for the same reason some people have a 6 BR, 5 bath house, and only two people live in it. Or own a 30 foot boat that sits on the side of the house dry rotting in the desert sun. I guess some people have more dollars than sense.

There are tons of reasons to own a big SUV or pick-up. I have a Dodge 1500 with 4WD because I prefer to keep smelly hunting dogs in the back. A load of beagles after a full days hunt can steam up a cab in so many ways! I also like to pull my little fishing boat out of the water without getting stuck on the wet muddy ramp. I can pick up a water heater, stove or washing machine from Lowes without scheduling a delivery and a day off of work (guess not now, but they could show up during my nap ) My wife also needs a sure ride to the hospital in snowy weather. Cross over SUVs with 6 inch ground clearance suck in 12 inches of snow that hasn't been plowed yet at 0530! I also find stepping up and sitting up to be more comfortable on long trips. My brother-n-law and Sister-n-law have a Suburban because they have 3 boys all over 6 ft 3 inches tall. They also go to OBX yearly. I've never seen as many SUVs as the wagon train that heads to the Outer Banks every weekend of the summer.
